Nope. Well done for us for the next 9 months. Your immune system is suppressed when your pregnant so bacteria that may be present in red meat not completely cooked through may not have affected you before but there is a much higher probability now. Sorry....

This! I stay away from steak entirely bc whats the point if I cant have it cooked properly.
I love steak. I love steak that deliciously pink in the middle. I love it even more when it's still cold in the middle. This baby can take my wine, my margaritas, my hot tub, and my figure, but he cannot take my steak away from me!
Beef risks are incredibly low. The bacteria is only on the outside of the meat (not like chicken and pork that have parasites that live within the flesh). If the outside of the meat is cooked you're a-ok.

I do agree with this, it is just a recommendation to avoid, like many things....and if I could get away with it I probably would but DH is such a tyrant about things like this. The dumb thing is he gets his information from me! I must have mentioned it the first time I was pregnant. Me and my big mouth!
Thank you! My husband is an enabler. He has been tossing Little Debbies at me for a week. Pregnancy makes me morbidly obese and he gets a kick out of feeding the bear.
Oops, hadn't thought of this. I had a medium rare steak on Saturday. I'd rather cut out steak entirely than it more cooked than that... :-/ But seriously if I'm not seeing the doctor until week 8, how am I supposed to know about things like this? I know a bunch from sister and friends being pregnant, but clearly not everything! I guess I need to study WTEWYE
There are so many things they tell you to avoid. The first time around I was overly cautious. I really think its up to the person what they are comfortable with. As well it is always good to consult with your OB.
No steaks, deli meats, or hotdogs for me. My dr. was very clear when I got my what not to do's. But I also went through IVF and have miscarriage factors so we aren't going to risk eating something that I can live with out.
You're gonna do what you want but I listen to my OB. She has a very short list of don'ts and not fully cooking all meat is one of them. Like a PP said, you are more at risk when pregnant for food born illnesses which can be bad for the baby (even if it's one time. Not a "in moderation" thing). And to me, it's not worth the risk.
If its a reputable place that goes thru a lot of meat (like a busy steakhouse) id have no issue eating a medium rare steak. Its the only way I'll eat it so its either that or nothing. I dont do it frequently.
As for cheese as long as the label says pasteurized it can get in my belly!

Ground beef is all you have to worry about. It is exposed to everything so it needs to be cooked all the way, Stake is only exposed to bacteria on the outside, nothing touches the inside till you cut into it. So does not need to be fully cooked all the way through, just on the outside! Enjoy!

I would probably still eat a medium rare steak. But as a FTM I'm finding all the restrictions to be a little bit of a mind fuck. If we're all questioning our decisions this much in the first two months of pregnancy, how much worse will it get when we are mothers? I've never had so much paranoid self doubt creeping around my logic and reasoning.
Thank you! My husband is an enabler. He has been tossing Little Debbies at me for a week. Pregnancy makes me morbidly obese and he gets a kick out of feeding the bear.
This sent me into a fit of giggles. I can see my DH doing this sometime in the near future lol.
With my last pregnancy I was told "anything in moderation". I definitely am eating medium rare steaks this summer. We have a ton in the freezer. The only thing I stay away from is alcohol while pregnant.
Of all the things I eat from the do-not-eat list, a medium rare steak is the safest. I also eat lunch meat and sushi.... all from places I deem to be quality places. I try to keep the lunch meat and sushi in moderation.
I order my hamburgers well-done when I'm pregnant.
Re: Medium rare
Beef is only dangerous when it's undercooked if it's ground up. It's not like pork or chicken that must be cooked through.
Eat away.

My first steak outing after DD was born was to the Keg....medium. I was disappointed but too much of a wimp to send it back.

Correct- the risk is the outside of the steak. It needs to be cooked. I don't suggest ordering rare.
With ground beef though, the insides/outsides are mixed. Bco this, you ideally should have burgers cooked thoroughly.
Soft cheese- risk is for Unpasteurized cheeses. Most cheese in US is pasteurized (just read the label). Brie on!

A/S findings: Baby is a girl! EIF found on heart
but maternit21 came back neg for chromosome disorders!!
And my OB said medium rare is totally fine. This was the same advice in my microbiology class.
That's my point. Different docs will give different guidelines. Do your research and decide what works best for you.
