I know it's gross, but there seem to be so many benefits from having your placenta encapsulated. I was wondering if any of you have done it, or are considering it?
-Help to balance your hormones -Replenish depleted iron levels -Assist the uterus to return to its pre-pregnancy state -Reduce post-natal bleeding -Increase milk production – this has been proven in a study -Make for a happier, more enjoyable post-natal period -Increase your energy levels
There's more, but those are the major benefits I'm looking into it for
I encapsulated mine and was so glad I did! Not only did it help my milk supply and baby blues, but they last forever in your freezer. You can take them while you're on your period to help with your hormones and cramps. Also, when you're feeling tired, just take one and you'll get some energy. I loved it!
I think it is one of those things that if you can stomach it, why not. I will not be doing it, but I know women that swear by it and that it helps them for many of the reasons @madison1victoria described. If i found more scientific info I would maybe consider it. @madison1victoria do you know what that study you listed above is called? I'd be interested in reading it.
My best friend did it after her second pregnancy and said the difference was phenomenal compared with her first. I'm not against it and may consider it if I can find someone to do it for me.
Part of me is totally considering it because it took almost a year for my hormones to go back to normal. DH would be so grossed out. But he didn't lose half his hair so...

I don't do it because of religious reasons, but my sister did and she had an amazing recovery! Her midwife did the encapsulation as part of her services.
Mama natural who is a huge crunchy mom did it And she said it made her unhappy and angry She stopped taking the pills and she returned to normal.

It can make PPD worse for some. I was just telling my friend I need to research what percentage have the opposite effect. For *most* it's very beneficial.

Encapsulation I'm cool with. I didn't do it last time but I would consider it. I didn't really have a difficult time leveling out my hormones but you never know from pregnancy to pregnancy. However I would never eat it. I think that's taking it a bit far.
I just went on the mama natural site and saw the video link. I almost clicked on it to watch the encapsulation process but the opening picture already made me gag.
I've encapsulated my placenta with my 2 previous births and plan in doing it again this time. I did it all by myself last time - it's actually pretty easy to do and the benefits are amazing!
My brothers girlfriend did it and her PPD was awful, actually it still is and my niece is well over a year old now. I could never do it, too weird to think of consuming a temporary organ

@mainemama what are the religious reasons? I'm curious. I wonder if my religion prohibits it?

For me, its because the consumption of human flesh is prohibited in the Bible And yes, I know there are LOTS of rules in the Bible that aren't followed (mixing of fabrics for example)
So its about $150 here gonna go ahead and get it done. I wont do it myself and the lady that does it uses the RAW method no cooking just dehydration.
I might message you in a few months to see who you use because that's cheaper than I've seen and we live in the same general area.

I'm totally supportive for mamas who want to do it, but I am not strong enough stomach wise. Just the thought is like "ewwww" to me! Blech. =P I honestly hope I don't even see the placenta at birth, because ew. lol

Ohhhh no! I absolutely will not do that! I'd much rather have them in a capsule and slip it into my daily vitamins

Animals eat their placenta raw. It's nasty to watch. I'm sure there are benefits, but I think I'll pass.
