Hi Ladies,
I need some serious help with baby girl names. I had used the line that "They get your last name, I get final say on the first name," with my husband...and then we found out we're having a girl and he countered with "Yeah, but she'll only have our last name until she gets married..." Ha! Anyways, her middle name will be Mary after DH's two grandmothers.
My favorite name is Lila - and DH is actually semi on board, except that our niece (different last name than us) is named Lily...and he thinks the names are too close. Do you agree?
Here are a list of names that he has vetoed - any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.
Clare (we both loved this one but DH's first cousin had a baby girl last week and named her Claire, so he says it's now out...I'd be ok with still naming her that, but he's not)
Tessa
Isla
Cora
Mairin
Charlotte (DH likes, but I think it's too popular)
Audra
Regan
Shannon
Vivienne
Re: WHY is my husband so difficult?!
Lila Mary is a beautiful name. It looks very similar but sounds very different than Lily. It's my favorite on your list (followed closely by Isla)
I agree that Clare is out. Lila and Lily are separate names but Claire/Clare are the same name.
I'm terrible at suggestions so I'm voting Lila Mary!

"Everybody wants to be happy. Nobody wants to feel pain but you can't have a rainbow without the rain."
Clare -- will your family be with DH's cousin's family a lot? If you only see them rarely, you can probably still use this. If you see them at family gatherings a few times a year, don't use this name. You still have a bunch of awesome names on the list, though, so no biggie!
Tessa -- an excellent name!
Isla -- this is not one of my favorites. Also, people will be confused about pronunciation and your DD will forever be correcting because people will not know whether it's "Iss-lah" or "Eye-luh."
Cora -- Nice! An under-used classic.
Mairin -- Meh. Too weird. It'll get misspelled all the time.
Charlotte (DH likes, but I think it's too popular) -- it's reaching a peak of popularity. You have better options.
Audra -- A nice name. I like it, but not as much as Tessa or Cora
Regan -- I want to love this name, but I just think there's something ugly-sounding about it. You have better choices.
Shannon -- A nicer alternative than Regan, if you're looking for an Irish-sounding name. May be a little dated, though. I was born in 1969, and my generation has a ton of girls named Shannon.
Vivienne -- Pretty, but always strikes me as a little frou-frou. I like Tessa, Cora, and Shannon better.
Out of your list I like Tessa Mary and Vivienne Mary
