October 2014 Moms

The most wonderful time of the year

Ok, so I've only had like 1 time where I had the crazy crying for no reason spell this pregnancy, but I'm totally all teary-eyed right now. But at least for good reason.

I'm such a fall fan, October through Christmas is literally my favorite time of the year. The crisp in the air, the smell of apples and cinnamon, leaves changing color, FOOTBALL!, not to mention all the awesome holidays for three months straight: Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas. It just hit me today that come this fall, I'll have my adorable little one to share my favorite time of year with. I'm one of those due late October so not sure if LO will be here by Halloween or not, but started looking at my first thanksgiving onsies and thinking of outfits for his first Christmas pics. And literally broke down in tears! Especially since last holiday season was especially rough for me with two losses in 2013.

I mean how can you not love this! I know I'm totally jumping ahead here but what fall/holiday traditions are you looking forward to sharing with your LOs this year?

All of the bolded, except for the football part ;).  I am so excited, I can't wait!!  I'm also really happy I'm lucky enough to be on maternity leave for all of these holidays too!  Even though she will only be a few months old, I can't wait to open presents with her on Christmas!  Christmas is so exciting with young kids :).

I am so, SOOO with you!  I usually start doing my holiday & autumn dance come September, even though it's typically still warm here.  I start watching holiday movies in October and preparing menus and decorations around the same time.  There's something about the crisp, fall air, apple picking, apple baking, pumpkin spice lattes, football, bonfires, etc., that is so magical, and I can't wait to add LO's birthday to that time!

Like you we experienced 2 losses last year (6w in Jan & TFMR @ 19w in Aug) - and my EDD for my second loss was actually Christmas.  It was a very difficult holiday for me and I basically distracted myself by preparing dinner for 15 people. No one mentioned the lass on Christmas or the days leading up to it, and I tried not to think about it, but there were many times I found myself alone in tears thinking about where we should have been spending Christmas, and what we were supposed to be celebrating that day.

I'm hoping this autumn will be full of life, love and celebration, as it is meant to be.
((Hugs)) I know what you mean! I had lots of ugly cries in the shower around that time. That was probably the saddest Christmas ever. But prayerfully, like you said, we'll be celebrating this year! And how awesome for our LO's birthdays to be around our favorite time of year! :-)

  • Fall is also my favorite time of year! I LOVE Halloween! I love pumpkin spice, and hot tea. I can not wait to share it with Baby Spencer! Ahhhh now you have me in tears! I already bought his costume. It's adorable! I'm on mobile so I can't post it, but it's a Batman onsie with a cape and batman socks with little capes on them! I can't wait!

I love the suit and tie one... and all of them actually!!!

  • Now I have the song "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" in my head...thanks for that.

I am excited but I get all stressed at the holidays since they are so hectic.  I have family all over the state and I am the one that has to travel.  It will be rough if this lo is not a good traveler.

But I do love Halloween and I am looking forward to Thanksgiving this year since I spent the last one at the hospital with my grandma (she was recovering from surgery).

Well minus flu season I'm so excited to have all the family events to fawn over LO. Also the whole thing off for maternity leave. I think she needs to be wrapped in a pretty box in her Christmas dress for some cheesy Christmas cards this year! Yup, already threatened DH with dressing our furbaby like a reindeer.

  • I am most excited because my MIL is flying here to help with the kids while I'm in the hospital and for a little while after so she will be here for Halloween. She hasn't seen ds1 for Halloween yet and we usually send pics. It will be nice to have her here to see all three for Halloween this year.

No joke, I was already humming this when I started reading your post!

  • Love it all. It is my favorite season too! I can't wait to get my little girl a stocking and have her there for Christmas and thanksgiving fun! So much more exciting now that we will have a LO this year.

  • This post makes me happy, I feel the exact same way and totally get a warm fuzzy thinking about it. Having also been through losses I also get kind of emo thinking of having baby in our lives going through the best time of the year :)

  • I'm with you on fall, and I am so excited that I'll be spending the cold Minnesota winter cuddled up with my little one.

We had a loss the week after Thanksgiving last year and the rest of the holidays were horrible. I am so ready to be excited for them again and have our little lady here!

  • I am in complete agreement with you! October-December are my favorite months of the year, too. And after the hellish October I had last year, this year's October is going to be so much better! I cannot wait. I absolutely love that onesie! I've had one like it pinned on my "Rainbow Baby" Pinterest board since I first found out about this little one. I love summer and all of the fun things and nice weather to enjoy but I cannot wait for Fall!

  • I'm torn! I love fall too and am happy to be having a Fall baby! I do love that I'll be on maternity leave all through the holiday season, even worked it out that I can come back to work a week after New Year's since the holidays were time off anyway  and excited to celebrate first Halloween, Thanksgiving and Xmas/Hanukkah with LO....but I know that the baby will be so small that he/she will not even remember it - and stressed over getting all the holiday stuff done with a newborn in tow and all the hormones and recovery, etc.... - re: The tree and decorating, holiday cards - getting ordered and sent, and buying all the presents (especially for DH) - we are a family that really goes all out and buys very special things - but DH and I are usually shopping around the time Lo is to arrive - so know we need to shop early but neither of us is ready to start our Xmas lists yet.

So I feel all of your excitement but feel stress over how its all ever going to get done too. I'm going to try and hold onto all the great excitement on here and have it overcome my stress. Thanks ladies for reminding me of the good parts of the baby coming in October :)

Our weather doesn't usually get nice until after October, but I am happy that our family will be able to visit over the holidays while the kid is still fairly fresh. And that we'll get some good bonding time alone with him before they arrive!

  • I am excited for this fall as well. It doesn't matter so much that she won't rememeber anything, it is the excitement of new beginnings. Last year was a really rough year for us. We had to put 2 of our cats down (one the day after Christmas) and I had a loss (LO would have been born early Dec) and the fall/seasonal holidays was quite sad and depressing. So this year is a year of hope and happiness and I can't wait for the fall!

  • I'm so excited too! October is my favorite month (halloween, pumpkin, crisp temperature) and I can't believe I'll have a baby girl to celebrate this fall! My husband thinks I'm insane bc I'm already thinking about her first birthday!
  • I'm with most of you all that fall is the BEST!  September and October have always been a toss up for my favorite month.  I guess depending whether or not this little guy comes early or not will give me my final winner. ;)

I'm also really excited to have a baby that will be big enough to enjoy the following summer with us!  DS was born in June so DH and I jokingly refer to the summer of 2012 as "the lost summer" since we were in the air conditioning feeding and napping with a newborn/infant the whole season.  It will be nice to have an 8-10 month old next summer!

  • I love fall. Too bad where I live it's only nice for about three weeks. :( But I am looking forward to newborn pictures with beautiful changing leaves and pumpkins! :) And her first Christmas will be so special. Whether she knows what the hell is going on or not, we will have so much to be thankful for this holiday season. :x

  • Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year as well. Love the cool, crisp weather (especially up here in New England), apple orchards, apple cider, cider donuts, pumpkins (oh. my. GAWD, the pumpkins!!!!!!), boots, sweaters, that amazing smell in the air that can't quite be put into words. I get choked up just thinking about it. We were married at a ski resort two Octobers ago and now we'll be introducing a little one as well!

And then, of course, there's Halloween (OH, how I LOVE Halloween!!!), Thanksgiving and Christmas to look forward to! But it all starts with fall! YEEEEEEEEE!!!
