Pregnant after IF

Maternity clothes

Now that I can't button my pants...I guess I need to at least get a few pieces of maternity clothing. Any suggestions of reasonable online shops? I know this may be a stupid question but will the clothes grow with you or do you need to buy new stuff as you go along? I am pregnant with twins so I expect to be a "tad" bigger
TTC 2 years- Me and DH (28) with (severely) low sperm count- less than 40 total (last 2 SA showed only 5 and 6 sperm each)
IVF #1: ER 1/23/13- 4 eggs retrieved, 3 eggs fertilized; ET with 1 embryo 1/28/13 2 frosties beta #1 2/5 was 4.8- beta #2 2/7 3.5; BFN

IVF #2: ER 7/17/13: 6R/3F- transferred 1 blast and 1 10 cell embryo 5dt.   Beta hell.  #1 2.5, #2 2.2- BFFFN! REALLY?
IVF #3: ER 12/1 and only 2 retrieved.  1 fertilized with ICSI.  Was planning on transferring one fresh and one frozen....fresh was only 14 cells at day 5...CANCELLED and devastated due to 5cm blood filled cyst in ovary and blood in uterus.
IVF #4: Antagonist protocol with endometrial scratch day one of stims.  ER 4/21: 6R/4M/3F- transferred 2 beautiful blasts (5dt) and one was hatching!  No frosties but hoping we won't need it!  Beta 5/4/14- 444(8dp5dt), Beta #2 10dp5dt 1002!  THIS HAS GOT TO BE IT!!!!!!!!!!  First US 5/15 we saw two of the most beautiful gestational and yolk sacs I have ever seen!

Re: Maternity clothes

  • I like Target's clothes and Old Navy.  For work I got some super comfy dresses from the Loft.  If you catch one of their 40 or 50% off sales you can get some really good deals.

I assume the clothes will grow with you.  The dresses I have are really stretchy and roomy and seem like they will last for a while at least.  I am not far enough along to test that theory though. :)

Hope you find what you are looking for!

  • I've gotten stuff online from Kohls. I know JcPenney also sells stuff. So far I've gotten my maternity clothing from Target, Kohl's, and Burlington. I was stupid and thought maybe if I bought larger regular clothing that I'd be okay but now I am starting to outgrow them, so my advice is just go with maternity clothing. Good luck!

  • I'm in love with ASOS maternity dresses I ordered online. Look for a coupon because they're not worth the full price, though. I haven't had any consistently good luck with bottoms, but I ordered a bunch from Old Navy and Kohls and found a couple of keepers. Returns were in-store (although not ALL Old Navy is) and super-easy.

  • Ditto Target and Old Navy. Also, I've bought a few pieces from Motherhood. I bought everything a little big so it would last longer. My favorite purchases were dresses from Target. They are super comfortable since I'm not a fan of bottoms with the belly panel. If it fits in the hips then the panel is too tight on my twin bump.

  • I usually just go to destination maternity. I don't find their prices outrageous and I like that most of their shirts are long because I'm 5'10". I can fit in a small but have been buying mostly mediums so hopefully they last all of this twin pregnancy.

I will say with ds towards the end I was out growing some of my maternity clothes. Like 36 wks on so it was the last little bit when I was mostly at home so I didn't worry about it to much. With this twin pg, I just don't know how long things will last.

Also maxi skirts and dresses will pretty much grow with you so those I have been buying in the regular clothes section at target.

  • Old Navy and target have also been my mainstays. However I also got some great deals on Craigslist and some really great hand-me-downs - so check with your friends!

I was a pre-pregnancy size 8 and mostly bought pregnancy size "medium." However, entering third tri with twins I have outgrown a lot of stuff besides the maxi dresses and skirts. I live in a hot place and find that the dresses and skirts are the most comfortable for me now anyway.

Do you have a belly band?  I haven't been able to button my pants for a few weeks now but the belly band is helping me stay in the summer capris that I own for work.   I think I'm still too small for maternity pants so haven't bought any.

Last week Old Navy had an extra 40% sale so I bought a few shirts that ended up being about $5 each.   They even have long and 3/4 sleeves which will be good for fall when I get bigger.   At this point the maternity shirts make my bump look really cute and there is lots of room for a bigger bump.

  • Although I don't love all their styles and I don't think the quality is super high, I have had the best luck fit-wise with Motherhood Maternity (although I am not having twins).  I have been able to find enough clothes that I like there and the quality doesn't bother me too much since they only need to last a few months.  Have also had good luck with the H&M Mama line, and Old Navy for basics (t-shirts, tanks, and fold-over yoga pants and shorts).  I liked Gap demi-panel jeans/pants for earlier in my pregnancy, but they were too tight by 3rd tri and the Gap full panel pants never worked for me.

  • The only place I've shopped that hasn't already been mentioned is Babies 'R Us - if they have a sale you can get some cute stuff from them.  In addition to the belly band that @heleng5 mentioned, there's also the rubber band trick - you can google it and see how to use a rubber band or hair tie to make an extender for your pants :)

Oh, and I'm on a Facebook group for local mommies, and I got like 9 maternity dresses for $80.  That was awesome.  So, look into that as well as Craigslist.

I'm not sure about fit for twins, but I've ordered most of mine from Kohl's, Gap, and Motherhood.  Kohl's is great for deals because they almost always have their maternity line on sale, plus you can find a coupon code for an extra 15% off and sometimes get Kohl's cash too.

  • Old Navy has been my go-to for cheap, cute tshirts, tanks, and dresses. My local stores don't have a maternity section, so I just buy online (you can return in store). Target has a few cute dresses too. I'm having twins and started wearing maternity clothes around 11 weeks- so glad I made the switch!! I bought three or four dresses and a pair of jeans immediately- maxi dresses I knew would grow with me and jeans (that don't have the belly panel) that are just now starting to get tight. I haven't had to buy anything in second tri except a few more tshirts because I liked them. I HAVE had to buy new bras though.

I had been crazy bc I needed nice work clothes last pregnancy, mine were a few great key pieces from Pea in the Pod, then Motherhood Maternity, Target, Walmart, and this time around have added some cute dresses I can't wait to wear from Zullily. Also, while a little pricey, I highly recommend a maternity shirt from cafepress- I still have a few from first pregnancy and just ordered a couple more... They crack me up, and make other people laugh too- and we need some humor after what we've been through!
Edit to add- sadly most of clothes were summer maternity and I will need winter... But with cardigans and sweaters I can make a lot of them still work!!!

The Gap has been my fave so far for dresses (with most of the styles you don't even have to buy them in the maternity section) & I love the Old Navy skirts & tops for casual.  I'm having a hard time finding cute maternity shorts but I did finally find one pair at Old Navy last weekend.  And I got a belly band in every color & use that at least a few times a week.
