I'm just curious - how do you feel about your coworkers?

This poll is a product of some soul-searching I've been doing re: career path. One thing I keep coming back to is that I can't work in isolation - I need a community, I need interaction. But I also don't want to make decisions for the wrong reasons, and I can seek out that kind of community elsewhere if I need to (HAI, bump!).

:(( six months ago, I'd say I like most of them and have some good friends, even if we had a bad apple who instigated a lot of trouble. Now, I have one good friend (who is moving next month), a few people I like, and a few I do not trust at all.

    :(:((

My office is mostly people who have moved to our state specifically to work for the company, so I think that helps everyone want to be friends. We have a few good couple friends from work. I think most of our socializing is done with work people.
@ladyblue07 this was us too. Won't threadjack anymore than that.
@casey78 Threadjack away - I am particularly interested in yours and untaggable Kendra's responses, for obvious reasons.

I mostly like my coworkers. I'm pretty close to two. I like a lot, but there's a lot of pettiness and gossiping and general office drama that I think is unnecessary.

  • Most of my co-workers are awesome. There are only a handful that annoy me. That said, I'm a remote employee and I only see them in person every couple of months. If I had to see them every day I'm sure there would be more people on my annoyance list.

  • I like most of them, consider a few good friends, and really don't work well with a couple.

I work two jobs and one of those jobs is at two different bakeries. Same owners just different locations.

I used to love bakery #2 and managed it for 3+ years but than I decided that being a SAHM was where it was at. When I came back to work I enjoyed bakery #1 more because I knew more people and they are my age group. Bakery #2 is run by a 17 and 19 year old. :-?

As for job #2, the flower farm job, I love all my co-workers! :x
  • I never was one to mix work and fun. Any coworkers I liked were from when I started working there and have been pushed out by a wave of new single males who have bromances with one another. I've tolerated it just fine and have worked well with them. But during mat leave they seemed to turn against me in strange ways and I've had to fight to stay on projects that I spent a tremendous amount of time working on and are important to me. So I go back next week and it will make an a very awkward dynamic. All that to say that I really don't care for any of the guys on my team (and I'm the only female).
  • We work long and emotionally draining hours. I have really enjoyed the work friendships I have made with 90% of my coworkers. We wouldn't make it though the day with out.

In my six years I have two people that I have become closer too. We have dinner every couple of months and go to each other's kids bday parties. Other then that I don't really have outside friendships with anyone.

  • I think there was actually Gallup research that having a "best friend at work" greatly improves employee morale--it used to be a question on our quarterly employee satisfaction survey at my old company, and the company was shooting for 9s or 10s that people agreed with that statement. I now work with two co workers who I worked with at my previous company, one of whom I used to manage and she actually became one of my best friends (after she was promoted and I no longer managed her)--so I definitely have close friends that I work with.

  • Most of the people I work with are nice, decent, and easy to work with. Some people I'd rather not talk to, but still have to. I don't socialize with my co-workers outside of work.
  • I've been with my company for 8.5 yrs. It's definitely not the same company I joined 8.5 yrs ago. It's acquired a couple of companies as well as rebranded itself. That said, the people there now are different. I don't like them, but I don't totally hate them. I very much enjoy what I do, and I think I'm pretty dang good at it. But the people suck for the majority of the day. It's a male dominated industry (print) so I'm one of a handful of women in the company.
  • I'm currently a SAHM but my 2 best friends are a previous co worker and boss. My previous boss had a baby 3 weeks before me. We get together often and the boys get along great.
