Severe food aversions

What food aversions are people experiencing? I am a meat eater, and I am unable to eat any meat for the last few weeks (I'm 9weeks 3 days). I'm a huge fan of Asian food, like curry and pho, but I can't stomach it now. I could give many examples. Strangely, I am highly allergic to nuts but I've been craving peanut butter. My doc said that she is concerned that my aversions will continue through my second and third trimesters bc more severe aversions are more likely to continue. If so, I will need to see a dietician bc I have so many food allergies (fruits, some vegetables, herbs, etc). It is just crazy!

Re: Severe food aversions

  • My main aversion is meat. I can eat certain meats if they are in something (like spaghetti with meat sauce for example). I can't handle like a steak or pork chop on my plate at all. I also can't cook the meat. I was considering cooking spaghetti last night and couldn't even open that package of meat.

Unfortulately I had this exact same aversion with my first pregnancy and it did stick with me the entire time. I could eat all the meat I wanted as soon as he was born though.

  • All raw veggies. I can't touch them.

  • The biggest one for me is coffee. I miss how much I normally love iced coffee. I also don't really care for vegetables as much as I used to (luckily fruits aren't a problem). And eggs usually sound gross to me, but I never loved scrambled eggs to begin with.

  • I have an aversion to a veggies. I didn't really like them before pregnancy, but now they are unbearable. However I crave fruit. It's strange, I also can't stand anything BBQed or BBQ sauce. I live in Texas and it's summer so that one has been interesting.

  • Sometimes coffee.. but more so the smell, not taste. I can drink it still, but I hate when it brews.  ANY raw meat- chicken, steak, ground beef.  I can handle eating it, as long as I don't have to prepare it.  And Chinese food lately :(

  • Couldn't touch meat between week 6-9.. Thou seems to have pasted now..
  • Coffee, soda, raw veggies and hummus, and Fried food.

I'm okay with the coffee and soda aversion but I have an awesome unopened container of my favorite hummus in the fridge that I'm going to have to give away. And the French fries :( all the poor fries!

  • Coffee is the major one for me too. I've switched to iced tea that I brew myself. I have this theory that pregnancy makes you hate things that you previously loved. I've had a coffee aversion for every pregnancy. My first pregnancy I hated all Italian food. I normally have a bit of a sweet tooth but this pregnancy sweet things turn my stomach.  Basically, nothing is appealing to me..I can't wait to love food again! Also, I feel like a commercial "I lost 10lbs on the pregnancy diet. Lose weight without counting calories and never feel hungry! It worked for me and it can work for you!"

This pregnancy, I can't do coffee.  Oddly, I still love the smell of it, but can't stand the taste of it.  It's got absolutely zero appeal to me.  Yogurt, which is usually a favorite of mine, occasionally makes me gag now, too.  :-(  Everything else seems to be OK so far.

During my last pregnancy, I didn't have that kind of food aversion to things I liked, but the stuff I didn't like (mushrooms, mayo, pickles) was magnified to the point of ridiculous throughout pretty much the entire pregnancy.  I could smell mayo on a sandwich someone else was eating & would just about lose it.  Last fall at the IL's, my MIL was sauteing mushrooms for everyone else to have with our steaks & I literally had to leave the house, I ate outside, and didn't go back in the house for nearly 3 hours (until it was time to go to bed) because I thought I'd barf everywhere.

Really most foods are still disgusting r. I'm in the middle of my 12th week and I was hoping to feel a bit better by now. I've lost about 5 pounds since the beginning of the pregnancy! Fruit, yogurt, cereal, are the easiest to force down. Really can't wait to enjoy good again.
  • Chicken, fish and orange juice (tastes like bleach. blegh). I had these same aversions with DD.

Also, coffee. But because there's no way I'd survive dealing with a toddler all day, I've been suffering through it. (I have found that cold coffee doesn't affect me as much as hot coffee does)

And not an aversion, but tomatoes (which I normally don't like at all) have no taste to me right now. It's so weird.

  • All meat especially beef. Gross. I'm from Texas and always loved a good steak or burger but not any more.
  • The smell of anything cooked makes me want to vomit. I usually love Asian food and when my husband ordered Thai last week I had to leave the room. We dont eat meat at all, but I've been craving tuna. (made mock tuna from chickpeas and it satisfied the craving). Since we are vegetarian, we usually eat lots of veggies, but lately those aren't appealing at all. However, I've never been a huge fruit person and now I cant get enough fruit! Pretty much everything is opposite for me!
  • I am the same way I love meat mostly white meat chicken fish pork but the smell of any meat makes me start gaging. I have found that if I don't smell it I can stand to get ground beef. Pretty concerned about it because I've lost 3 pounds since I found out I was pregnant.
  • Ground beef makes me want to vom!

  • This week chicken. The texture, smell yuck, yuck.
  • Chicken chicken chicken...if I see it on a billboard while driving, I have to pull over to gag.

I can't eat bananas. It took me a long time to acquire a taste for bananas, but now I'm back to not being able to eat them. I think it's a texture thing.

Since I was pregnant with lo who is two I have not been able to eat bananas, which sucks because so many delicious things have bananas, like banana splits! While pregnant they made me vomit but when not pregnant they give me stomach twisting gas and I feel sick all day so I've given up on them :-(
  • Hummus, gyros, and seaweed. Other than that, any really "rich" foods, such as bbq sauce or chocolate :(

I was going to suggest a BRAT diet for those finding it hard to eat anything (bananas, rice, apple sause, toast) because I've heard it's suppose to be easy to digest, but not if you can't stomach bananas!

@Elsa32‌, I haven't been able to eat any turkey (ground turkey and turkey burgers especially). I likes them just fine until I became pregnant, now I can't even look at it. At the beginning, around 5 weeks, I wasn't able to eat any meat, chocolate milk was my BFF! I'm now 11.5 weeks and I'm able to eat chicken, still no turkey.
  • I wish I had cravings.
  • Cooked veggies, especially tomatoes, but even sauteed mushrooms, onions and garlic, all of which I used to love!

On the other hand, I'm obsessed with cheese and eggs, neither of which I was particularly into pre-pregnancy.

    Pregnancy is weird, yo.

So excited for our rainbow baby!
  • Omg today dh was eating a slice of cheese and normally I love cheese but it looked so unappealing :-&
I desperately want to be able to eat something other than cereal and oatmeal without feeling sick, granted I was up 5 lbs because I got pregnant while on a cruise but I've lost 7 lbs so far because nothing tastes good or seems appealing. :-(
  • Steak. Sounds so heavy and the thought if chewing it , yuck
  • I am currently 12 wks and I have had extreme nausea and food aversions ever since I found out I was pregnant. I've lost 15 lbs since the beginning of my pregnancy due to the decrease in food volume and probably due to some vomiting. I am overweight so my doctor wasn't extremely concerned but they are keeping an eye on me to make sure I'm not spilling ketones in my urine. About two weeks ago, I got so ill that I was hospitalized on the 16th. I ended up being there for a week bc they found out I was having issues with my gallbladder and they had to remove it. I assumed most of my stomach issues were bc of my pregnancy, but now I have had a decrease in those symptoms since the removal of my gallbladder. The only downside is that I ate so little food for so long that I am not able to eat a full meal. So I have been doing small snacks throughout the day and that seems to be helping. It's just frustrating that I will crave something, really look forward to it, and then have like two bites and I am unable to stomach the rest of it. I just want to eat!! Lol

My morning sickness is 24/7.  My doctor prescribed me some nausea medicine; however, that doesn't work half the time.  So needless to say, the thought of most food sends me over the edge. Most of all, meat which I usually eat daily.

However today, I did crave carrots and ate a bowl full.  So, that must be a good sign.  Fingers crossed this goes away when I hit my second trimester.

Me too! I absolutely loved sweets before pregnancy. I forced myself to eat a cupcake my husband bought me the other day.
  • All meat, especially CHICKEN. Just typing the word is giving me chillbumps, and not in a good way. Coffee (which is really really sad), chocolate (even sadder), dairy/eggs (I have an aversion to those even when I'm not pregnant, but it's amped up when pregnant), and cooked greens (cooked spinach, etc.).

I could eat fruit, especially grapefruit, and peanut butter all day long. Tomatoes have been a big winner for me too.
  • This little one apparently does not! Like strawberries its an instant 30 min barf session from one bite!
  • Onions in anything, coffee and chocolate. My nausea has been so bad, the only thing I want is cereal and McDonalds smoothies.
  • chicken and cooked fish (i had no trouble with sushi, oddly enough).  most raw veggies too, unless it's completely dredged in bleu cheese.
