October 2014 Moms

So my husband accused me of...

Nesting this yesterday.

I can't tell if that is what it was or if I finally had enough energy to do all the chores that I have been neglecting for months.

I cleaned the hand-me down glider we got from his grandparent's house (helped clean up that house and yard on Saturday) the couch and DH's recliner, swept and mopped the floors, washed my dog and the dog we were watching for my brother, did almost all of the laundry and cleaned the junk out of my car (I had my wedding veil in there).

Needless to say, I am happy to be back at work today so I can "put my feet up"! Anyone else think that they are nesting?

Yup.  Some days all I want to do is clean and organize.
We are so excited to grow our family!

  • I am getting there but haven't actually started. The room that will be the nursery is currently our storage room. I keep getting up to go start cleaning and going through things but when I open the door its a big fat "nope!". I also started buting hangers and stuff for the baby but haven't gotten to the pony where I actually want to wash everything and hang it up. I I'm in the pre-nesting phase I guess. Lol

Yup! I painted the kitchen last week and have a long list of other things to do since I can't really remodel the baby's room.

  • Yep, I'm definitely nesting!  I'm wanting things organized and taken care of right away which is so not like me.  DH is loving it, but he knows it will probably go out the window once the new baby comes.  I think I'm probably even more fanatical about my nesting this time because I realize how busy it can actually be with a newborn this time around.  With DS, I definitely nested during the last 10 weeks, but that was also because we had just moved, so I was nesting and unpacking = the perfect situation to get all those boxes empty and out of the house.

I left my sewing stuff still in boxes because I expected to get some sewing done while on maternity leave...hahaha, I was so idealistic; I fully believed my maternity leave would be full of days where I could lay my child in the bassinet while I sewed wool longies for his cloth diapers and made big pots of soup, and stoked the fire to warm up the house during the cold winter months.  Instead I spent my days glued to a chair while my child nursed for at least an hour at a time every 2-3 hours.  When he actually napped (no not all newborns sleep 18-20 hours a day), I ran around like a crazy lady trying to get a shower in while I washed a load of laundry, fried eggs with salsa was my stand-by meal - quick, protein packed, and some veggies.

I actually took two days off before the 4th of July to finally address my sewing room and get DS's big boy room set up before the summer totally gets away from me.  October is going to be here before I know it, and I'm trying to be as best prepared as I can for 2u2.

  • Yes, I am there.  Friday I took the day off of work and cleaned our house from TOP to Bottom!  I did so much this weekend. I have been really struggling with my energy level but somehow it reappeared this weekend! We have a huge list of things DH and I will be working on this week and next to get ready for our LO.  The fact that we only have 15 weeks left is really starting to kick in!!

I'm definitely having nesting urges but they're not very baby related. I'm just in crazy mode to get shit done around the house. My main focus is getting DS1's room painted and get the bunk bed built. Then moving DS2 in there with him. (Possibly happening this week since DH will have 48hrs off work Wed & Thursday, and he wont be on call--woo!). Plus organizing their clothes. I guess that's kind of baby related since it needs to get done so we can start on turning DS2's room into LO's room and I can start bringing baby stuff down from the attic. I also have the goal of painting the living room, our bedroom, the kitchen, hallway and dining room before DD gets here.

I'll be starting third tri next week (Holy shit!!) so I guess I better get started. We did just buy a new car (GMC Acadia) so we could fit a third car seat in... that counts right?

We have a Terrain and realize even that isn't big enough for our family so we're looking into an Acadia. Do you like it? Is it pretty roomy?

I have an 18 year old SS who is with us quite a bit so we do need more room than our Terrain gives us.

@nicb13 Yes, I LOVE it! We got one with the captain chairs in the second row. The bench seat just wouldn't work with car seats being "LATCH"ed in, it would have been a PITA to get anyone to the third row. Definitely plenty of room for us. My 6'3" DH and I sat in the third row and fit comfortably and could still have fit one more person if we needed to. The captain chairs are able to slide back/forward to make more room when needed. Plus we have enough room for our 100+ pound American Bulldog.

  • Yes. Getting stuff down around the house even when I'm bone tired and my feet are about to fall off. I think sometimes I am carrying baby girl in my feet. We had a garage sale Saturday to get rid of a ton of our accumulated junk and broken/cheap/useless/unnecessary furniture. Tore the carpet out of baby girl's room and even sold that for ten bucks. Ready to put new flooring in there and start setting up.

Not me.  Although I keep getting moments where I really want to, but then one of my kids interrupts me with something that needs to be done NOW! And all of a sudden I have no more energy to nest.

It doesn't help that the nursery will be in DS#2's room.  We've got the bunk bed set up in DS#1's room, but #2 just isn't ready for a big boy bed yet.  I'm hoping we can move them in together in early September, even if we have to arrange the room to fit a crib.

Occasionally I'll go up and sit in the glider in DS#2's room and dream about all that I want to do (mostly paint and small decorating details), but since we are keeping all the same furniture and same layout, there isn't really all that much to do.  I am itching to get all the teeny tiny baby clothes out and washed though!

  • I was nesting pretty hard core until last week when I over did it and felt like someone kicked me in the crotch the next few days. That, coupled with a nasty sinus infection I'm dealing with, has put me on the sofa for the time being. Stressing over every day that something didn't get done!

  • I have definitely thought about it but I haven't started yet! I honestly haven't even bought or researched anything yet so I am really far behind! (We were kind of up in the air about what country we would live in so I found it pointless to research for one country if we were moving to another). Third tri starts in less than 2 weeks so I really need to get a move on!

  • I am definitely nesting. I do a lot of cleaning and de-cluttering think about what needs to happen before baby comes. I think that's the difference between nesting and just cleaning. If you are thinking about getting ready for baby, then you are nesting.

  • I was definitely in nesting mode this past weekend. We had DD's birthday party to set up for and that kinda led to cleaning and organizing everything else. My SO told me to take a break after I had a meltdown on Saturday over the cupcakes.

  • I've had bit of nesting. Organizing and making room around the house. I can't do much in the nursery. My FIL is coming in next week to help my husband redo drywall & insulation in baby's room. Once it's done I can order everything I picked out.

  • I just spent the weekend cleaning and organizing all the clothes and closets in the baby's room, so...yes, I'd say that I know what you're feeling! ;) I just feel calmer with everything in there organized, even if we're not expecting LO for months yet.

  • I'm definitely nesting! A few friends gave me baby clothes and yesterday I went out and bought bins and organized them all by size and folded and hung clothes in the closet.

  • I definitely am. I'm at a standstill right now because the things that need done are things I can't do and FI is gone for work. I keep going into the nursery and sorting clothes and looking at the walls to see where I want to hang decorations. I'm excited to have everything come together!

  • I'm a binge cleaner, but I haven't exactly been cleaning-inclined of late. I'm at this weird stage where I do ALL the laundry and then just...leave it in the basket because I'm too tired from running around the house gathering the laundry. I figure it's only a matter of time before I spend the whole weekend deep cleaning the house just because. I would love to have that much energy.

Pretty sure wanting to buy all new furniture is a nesting thing though.

  • I feel like I'm getting there, mentally. I never have a ton of energy, though, it seems to get be getting worse this semester actually. So, I have moments where I think about all we have to do and get and clean....and then I go and lie down :)

  • I definitely am... and its killing me to be at work all day while DH is home NOT cleaning! Lol!
  • Definitely in nesting mode - problem is never seem to have time. I have a whole list of things I want to organize and get done but then I get to Saturday and I'm exhausted and only get about 1/4 of it done. This past Saturday I bought all the closet organizer stuff off my registry telling my DH we couldn't wait for people to buy as we needed to get that closet in shape now. But then Sunday I didn't have the energy to actually start putting it all together.   DH thinks its cute and keeps telling me we have time, but the fact that it is almost July scares me.
