Bleeding After Transvaginal U/S...UPDATED

Okay, so I mentioned this in my main thread, but wanted to ask about it specifically. I had my first ultrasound today. I was 5w5d, which is right where I should be, and we saw the HB. Couldn't get an accurate HR reading because it's too early. This should've set my mind at ease but it caused a host of other worries... On the way home, I started having mild sharpish cramps, and once home, went to the bathroom and wiped and had quite a bit of bright red blood on the TP, which is naturally a PGAL'rs nightmare. I called the OB's office, and they told me some degree of bleeding is normal post-transvaginal, and to not be concerned unless I was filling a pad. They said the bleeding could go on as long as 2-3 days, and to not worry about coming in or going to the ER until I was bleeding enough to fill a pad. I guess my question is this...how big of a pad? Panty liner? Maxi pad? Overnights? When I'm going to the bathroom every hour, how do I know I'm not wiping all the blood away and that's why I'm not filling a pad? I know this sounds totally paranoid. But to me, this is period like bleeding. And period-like light, menstrual cramps. And it's not lightening up. I mean, it's not getting worse either...I NEVER had bleeding at all during my pregnancy with DD, not even after rough exams and trans-vaginals (I had 3 TVs with her) so this is new, terrifying territory for me. Has anyone had this happen to this degree and everything be alright? Am I just being a terrible drama queen? I am hesitant to go to the ER, because their quality of care is CRAP, they won't let you know the results of the ultrasound immediately, and I know if everything looks fine they'll report it as a "threatened miscarriage" which is basically saying I'm bleeding and they don't know why, and tell me to follow up with my OB. if it IS a m/c, there's nothing they can do to stop it anyway, so it's sort of useless to go except for peace of mind. So. 1. Has anyone had this happen to this degree and been alright? 2. If the bleeding/cramping persists or worsens, at what point should I go back to my OB? 3. Does the PGAL mindset EVER GO AWAY? :-(

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Bleeding during pregnancy is the scariest! I had some bleeding after my first transvag u/s (I was 6w), but it was pink, not red, and it wasn't very much. I would describe it more as an instance of spotting, then it went back to being a brownish colored discharge later that night. Are you wearing anything, like a panty liner? Do you have to change it? I would be really conservative in the "fill a pad" department and base it off a very light pad or pantyliner. I hope the bleeding and cramping stops soon for you!

@noonandj04‌, I'm wearing overnight pads, because they're all I have handy. No, it's not filling it, I haven't had to change yet but I'm also using the bathroom quite a bit and wiping much of the blood away, I imagine. Cramping has mostly subsided, still a few slight twinges. Bleeding still going on. :-( I hope it has stopped or almost stopped by morning. I hate this! It makes it very hard to be hopeful and enjoy the pregnancy.

No advice but I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm praying the bleeding stops and the TV just irritated your cervix or something.

I would just say for now to relax, put your feet up, and drink lots of water. FX that when you wake up tomorrow it will have stopped!

I had spotting after my t/v u/s at 7 weeks but it was pink and brown. I agree with @noonandj04‌ that you might want to relax for now (I know...MUCH easier said than done), drink lots of water and see how it is doing in the morning. I'd say if it's still red in the morning and as steady as it is now, call your doctor to express your concern and request that they get you in to check it out. Lots of positive vibes, though, that it goes away and it was just an irritated cervix.

Thanks for all the advice, ladies. Bleeding has worsened, cramps are about the same. I'm resting, as in laying down, but I simply can't sleep. Going to call the OB in the morning and see if they can work me in for a check...I just really feel this is not normal. :-( the thoughts and prayers are so appreciated. I really don't want to have to leave this board...not this way. I know it's premature but I already feel so sad and defeated, especially after seeing that golden flicker on the screen today.

Nothing much to update yet. Bleeding got very heavy overnight and I began passing clots. Calling the doc this morning to try and get in for either an u/s or beta draw to confirm loss.

I'm amazed. Doctor said baby is still there. HB Is still there. She can't tell me where the bleeding is coming from as there wasn't really any sign of it on the ultrasound, and she did a pelvic exam and my cervix is closed and she said she couldn't see any bleeding from the cervix. She did say there was some concern because the baby's amniotic sac was changing shape (it's supposed to stay perfectly round, but mine was collapsing on itself partially) but she said she has seen some pregnancies continue on to be healthy even after seeing that kind of change on ultrasound. She said I'm basically in limbo. It's a waiting game. If I make it to next Monday without losing the baby, I have an ultrasound at 8:30.

Thanks everyone, the support here is amazing. This has been so traumatic, still is an emotional roller coaster, and naturally, my head is spinning. You allllll are sooooo appreciated. I'll take all the T&P I CAN GET! I'm going to do my best to rest as much as possible and not stress.
