Pregnant after a Loss

cramps v. CRAMPS?

So my big PgAL brain for the week is trying to interpret the bloaty, crampy stuff that is going on.  Is this "I'm making a baby stretching, my uterus is growing" cramps or is this "sh!t is going horribly wrong" cramps?

I haven't had anything very severe, but at the same time my head just can't stop this vicious cycle. Every now and again I get a twinge that is a little above and beyond and that really gets me going.

Anyone else having the same?

Re: cramps v. CRAMPS?

  • How far along are you? I remember at the very beginning of this pregnancy feeling some similar cramps.  I think if they're not painful, then it's probably normal stretching cramps.

  • I'm Wk 5 D 4, so pretty early into things, but I've lost two prior in weeks 5 and 6, so I'm probably extra paranoid.  I'm not great at asking questions, but I think I'm going to need to get over that.  Maybe the doc will get a quick email today.

  • In my experience in early pregnancy some cramping can be normal. However, if you are concerned give your doctor a call.
  • I'm 7w3d and I could have written this post this morning!  I don't get menstrual cramps, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but as PP have said, they aren't painful, but maybe a little like a cramp you'd get when you run.  If you haven't had any bleeding and they aren't necessarily painful, I'd say it was normal.

  • @katecorum, not that I love that you're having cramps, but it's nice to know I'm not alone.  There hasn't been any bleeding, so that at least a good thing.

I like to think of the mild crampy stretchy feeling as a reassurance that they are still in there!  :)

  • I'm 17 weeks and still trying to differentiate between cramps. I get some pretty stabby pains in one spot. I have to tell myself over and over that it's most likely just growing pains.

  • I had some cramps early on that were almost daily and would happen multiple times a day. I've had two u/s and everything has been ok. If the cramps become severe or are accompanied by spotting or bleeding, definitely call your doctor.

  • I had cramps starting basically at implantation up until probably 6 weeks.  I was pretty freaked out because at times that were actually painful and made me wince.  I'm 9 weeks now and they've basically subsided.  I asked my doctor and he said that as long as there was no bleeding accompanying it it isn't something to worry about.

So excited for our rainbow baby!
  • I have had moderate cramps from 5 weeks on (8w3d today) and wasn't too worried as I know it can be normal. I did have fairly painful cramps over the weekend that were worrisome but no bleeding and now they seem to have subsided so I am guessing that can be normal as well.

  • Like many PP, I had cramps too.  Mine lasted through the first trimester.  And like others have said, my doctor said as long as it isn't accompanied by bleeding, just try to relax and drink lots of water.  ((hugs)) it's a really awful mind-game.
