Troubles with 2 yo. Advice?!

Is there some rule that as soon as you get pregnant, your current child does a complete 180?!?

My 2 year old daughter has been waking up at the ass crack of dawn every day for weeks now. I do not know what to do to keep her in her crib. This morning she had tossed her stuffies and her blankets on the floor and was yelling for me at 5:30. It has been around 6 for a few weeks now.

Does anyone have any tips?!? Giving her a book to read hasn't helped, putting her to bed later hasn't helped.. I am at a loss. A tired, exhausted loss. :(

  • Have you tried having her fall back asleep in your bed?  That's works for us when someone wakes up too early.

  • I'm sorry. My DD goes through stages of waking up early, too. Putting her to bed later doesn't help, shortening naps doesn't help either. We just have to ride it out. She always goes back to her normal time. Have you tried one of those clocks that turns colors? it will be red all night to signal staying in bed, then it will turn green when she can get out of bed (so at whatever time you set it to say she can get out). I haven't tried it, but a few of my friends have had success with it.

  • LOL @ChickenOnSunday THANK YOU!!! I needed that laugh this morning, seriously. I told my husband "why is she turning into a little fucking nightmare???" The 2s so far have been challenging..

  • @Jay_Cee that is not a bad idea! Have you seen it work this young?

@miniwheat10 that is very interesting to hear! We have been going back and forth on when to make the switch, and since she shows no signs of climbing out yet, we were going to wait a little longer. But perhaps when we get back from our trip in a month it may be time... That sounds like exactly what I need. She is not her normal happy self all the time anymore, and it probably has something to do with not sleeping as long as she used to.

  • My daughter is not quite two (she turns two in September) but I can relate on her being a nightmare.  It's almost as if she knows something is different.  She has been ridiculously clingy to me to the point where I cannot even put her down.  She also wakes up early, and then acts like a total grump all morning.  You would think I made her wake up.  She can sleep in as late as she wants to! I'm thankful I kept her in daycare part-time this summer (I am a teacher) because it gives me a little break! So, >:D< because I can totally relate.

  • @animalcrckr yeah she will not even lie still in our bed. When she wakes up she is AWAKE. I dont know how. She is still miserable, but wide awake.

@JessicaxLynn87  thank you for the commiseration!!

  • @lizzybean‌, yes! My friends who did it tried it as early as last summer and fall (our babies are all turning 3 this summer). Also, I agree with the toddler bed - Adele started sleeping better once she was in it. We transitioned her when she turned 2 (bc she tried climbing out). She got it right away, so no actual transition time for us. She loved it.

  • DS went through something like that right around his second birthday. It only lasted for a couple weeks and he's been back to sleeping like a champ for the last month. Hopefully it's just a fluke!

  • Yeah, they go through phases like this. My 3 year old has been getting up at 5:45 every morning.

It comes and goes, but it's much harder for them to sleep in the summer because the sun comes up so early.

    Have you tried blackout curtains?

  • @ChickenOnSunday LMAO!!!  My thoughts exactly:-)  They can be a pain in the ass!

OP - Try the big girl bed.  I switched DD to a big girl bed at just over 2 years old and it worked great.  Don't get me wrong..it was a solid week to get her adjust but overall she did great.  Helps a ton with throwing lovies out of the crib.  GL to you!

    Welcome to my life! LOL

@Jay_Cee our friend just gave us one of those clocks. As soon as I figure out how to set it up, I plan on trying it. I have no idea how he is suppose to know, but worth a shot. DS never sleeps past 6am. We have tried everything and nothing works!

What time does she usually get up? I would totally put her back in my bed for mommy snuggles to see if she will go down til her normal wake up time. Mommy needs sleep.

My baby girl is suddenly mouthy and filled with attitude. She is having frequent fits and stomping around like a butthole. WTF she is 4 not 14!

  • @HerHighness she used to sleep until 7:30 every day!!
Bringing her into bed really isn't an option because DH starts getting up and ready for work in our room (loudly, ugh) around that time too.

Im sorry your DD is misbehaving too. Every age just gets more and more fun eh?? ;)
