I want to have a tubal with my c-section and was wondering if anyone else was having this done? I was feeling pretty good about it until I started reading horror stories, now I'm not so sure. Anyone have any thoughts on this??
If something unforeseen happened where I would need a c-section I'd definitely opt to have my tubes tied. I'm curious too though, what are the horror stories?
I've read stories about crazy hormone changes, painful or longer periods, bad PMDD. Stuff I shouldn't be reading! Everyone's hormones etc. are messed up after pregnancy and birth so I don't know.

Is this possible? I figured that if you wanted the tubal done at the same time as a c/s, you would have to have a planned/scheduled c/s.
I think that the possibility of my needing a c/s this time around is pretty high, although I'm hoping for a VBAC. The only thing making me consider scheduling a RCS is because I'd like to have my tubes tied while they're in there, and I just assumed they couldn't do that if it wasn't previously planned.
I know I shouldn't read internet stories but curiosity got the best of me. I'm sorry for alarming anyone. I will talk to my Dr. about possible side effects, I just wanted to know if anyone heard anything bad.
I haven't heard anything bad at all about the procedure itself. I'm talking about side effects after, like changes with mood swings, hormones, periods, etc. I was curious if anyone heard any stories like that.

I have heard that and that's why for me personally, I would never get a tubal. I'm also against hormonal birth control though (I used a diaphragm before we TTC) so I'm generally against medication/procedures that mess around with my hormones.
If we did decide to opt for permanent birth control, I would push for my husband to have a vasectomy before I would opt to getting my tubes tied. It's less invasive for him and I don't think it messes with his hormones as much (I could totally be wrong on that last part).

I believe so. My OB had mentioned my signing something to authorize having the procedure done during an unforeseen c-section. I don't think it could be done without already having the signed authorization though...maybe to guard against someone making a hasty decision during a time of stress?
@persephonerose you are correct a tubal will not cause hormonal changes
That is what I thought but I am certainly not a doctor. Both of my tubes are iffy and I had a long conversation with my doctor when we first started TTC about how that would affect my hormones and cycles and he said it doesn't that they are just the passage way. The egg would travel down to where its blocked, then degrade and become absorbed by my body. The same as if it reached my uterus and was unfertilized.
@FamousEa My sister just had a complete tube removal instead of tubal ligation, and she has had no issues with her hormones (anecdotal). I was kind of surprised because I had never heard of this, but they leave everything else in tact and just remove the Fallopian tubes.
Her OB suggested it because of a family history of ovarian cancer. I am waiting to hear from my OB what he thinks, but I guess some studies suggest it might actually reduce the spread of ovarian cancer.
My mom had a tubal in 1990 and from what I know she didn't have issues. I am not sure where I stand on this issue since I am a FTM who wants more and not sure if I could convince DH to be snipped when we are ready to stop!
I'm planning on getting my tubes tied and as of now, I'm not having a c-section. However, if I were to have one, I would get it done at the same time. Also, my auntie had a full hysterectomy (to prevent cancer and she's fine now) but they left her ovaries so she wouldn't have to take hormone supplements. So I don't see how getting your tubes tied would cause a change in hormones.
I am considering it but my doctor said they are slightly less effective if done at the time of birth rather than in a seperate procedure 6+ weeks after baby. I also know some people that have had complications from theirs. I really, really want something very permanent and so that gave me pause.
I really want to get mine done but I also read the horror stories and am reconsidering. I've talked to two people in real life (my sister and my friend) who said their only real side effect is pain during sex sometimes, but that its not bad enough that they regret getting them tied
I am seriously comsidering it. I worry about it being so permanent and I'll regret my decision in 2 years time and want a 3rd baby. But I feel we are done. It's such a hard decision. Anyways, my coworker had an issue where they didnt cauterize the tube enough and she was having issues so they had to go back in after her RCS to fix things. Other than that I haven't heard anything bad.
If I opt for a RCS I will definitely be doing it. I haven't done much research and haven't discussed with my Dr yet as my husband and I just recently came to the decision. I plan on talking to my Dr next week at my check up. I also have a friend who recently had the procedure done (not with a section). I will ask her if she has noticed any difference with her cycles, etc. and report back what I find out!
I will not be having a tubal regardless if this baby is a RCS because I'm not sure we're finished yet. That said, I would not be getting a tubal even if our next, which would be our last, was a RCS because my body has done enough. My body has been through enough with pregnancy and delivery that my husband will be the one to get things fixed. Call me selfish, but it is what it is and he is well aware.
I have been seriously considering it as well, this will be baby #2 and me and DH feel that we are done. However my doc isn't entirely convinced it is a good idea at my age (I am 24). I don't really want to have the procedure later on as I have had so many surgeries in my life time. I am hoping my RCS is my last time being under the knife.
I'm having it done during my RCS. I'm glad to be doing it together because my girlfriend had it done at 6 weeks after her vaginal birth and said recovery sucked. But she's always had vaginal births so it makes sense. My first c section was a BAD recovery, but the second was cake so I'm hoping this one is as well.
I'm either having Essure or hubby is getting the big V. Anyone heard anything about Essure? I have talked to a friend who had it done and hasn't had any issues.
