Welcome to the August ‘14 PgAL Check-In!
This is a weekly check-in for women who are due in the month of August (or thereabouts) and have suffered a previous pregnancy loss.  Being pregnant after a loss can produce a mix of emotions.  This check-in is intended to provide support while we make our way through each trimester.
If your EDD has changed, please let me know.  I try to pay attention to the board and get the latest update, but apologies if I missed out and I'm posting outdated info.

  • EDD (if this is your first time on the check in):  8/18 but just found out we are now measuring 2 weeks ahead.
How many weeks are you:  32weeks but again, may be measuring ahead.
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally):  Feeling good, just big.
Upcoming appointments or milestones: Fundal height was taken this apt (32 weeks) and we will go for an ultrasound at 35 weeks to check size.  35 week also marks Group B test and internal check!
What's been going down this past week:  Work shower scheduled in 2 weeks which I'm excited about!
GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born?   I'm trying to clean out closets.  I think I also will try to get DD#1 winter gear in order so that all I have to do is pull it out this fall.

    EDD 8/18

  • How many weeks are you: 33w 5d

How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Physically I'm starting to wane in the energy dept. I feel like I hit empty a lot quicker. Feet are swollen by the end of the day, I'm achey, round ligament pain, yada yada. But I love how my body looks, and I love feeling her kick :) So while I may need a few extra moments each day to prop up my feet and rest I'm feeling really good, and can't wait to meet our baby!

Upcoming appointments or milestones: 34 wk appt at the end of this week, nothing fancy just a tummy check.

What's been going down this past week: mdarmetko hormones are in full swing, I find it harder to 'come down' from that overwhelmed feeling. And on Sun I thought I left my phone at Home Depot (was in my pants pocket the whole time) but I burst into tears when I found it, and then my purse fell off the dashboard and I cried harder. H was so sweet calming me down.

GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born? Doing everything we can now on our new house before she arrives. Ranging from her nursery to the little projects we have to do. Also, I'm trying to focus now on not trying to make everything perfect, that shouldn't be a priority once she's here.

mdarmetko: Things are going pretty well.

How many weeks are you: 33 weeks, Durian Fruit??
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Emotionally starting to get nervous about 6 week from today countdown to scheduled c-section.  We made some progress in organizing baby things weekend, but feel like there is still a lot to do & get and not much time to accomplish it in. Physically - Tired & Swollen.  I went shoe shopping on Friday, since I used to wear in 8 and currently am rocking a 9W.  I'm overheated & uncomfortable at night, so I spend most of the day tired.
Upcoming appointments or milestones: Apt next Friday at 34 weeks, then down to weekly apts after that.
What's been going down this past week: Had a nice relaxing weekend with the family.  Spent a lot of time outside between our baby pool, jazz festivel and outdoor service for church.  It was nice to have a weekend we spent largely at home.
GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born? Paper plates & plastic wear sounds like a great idea, since the dishes usually fall on me to clean.  Also, just trying to relax about housework, and get done what needs to when we can.  Better communication between DH and myself will also make life easier.  With my DS, we we had very different expectations of what I would be doing while on maternity leave.  This time he understands how much that hurt me and our relationship. Also, I'm  planning on sending DS to DC 2x per week.  He loves school and his friends and it will give me a little bit of break not having to handle a newborn and 3 yr old.

Weeks- 31! Only 7 1/2 weeks until RCS!

Feeling- pretty good. Back aching and having trouble sleeping but trying not to complain too much!

Upcoming appts- 32 week check up Thursday.

Past week- my 5 year old was able to feel the baby for the first time yesterday. He was super excited! Very sweet.

GRKY- I've cooked a few things and froze them. Plan on doing more. Letting my husband and mom help more. With my first son I felt like I needed to do everything- WRONG!
  • @mdarmetko‌ thank you for the check-in! Unfortunately, my remodel has not started yet- UGH. Hoping for next week!!

How many weeks are you: 32 weeks today
    How are you feeling (physically/emotionally):
Physically, I am starting to get a little sore but nothing too terrible. I had some ketones in my urine this morning at the appointment, but my doctor wasn't concerned and said it sounded like my breakfast was too small. Emotionally, I am doing well although the ketones made me nervous!
Upcoming appointments or milestones: next appointment in 2 weeks.
What's been going down this past week:
Working on the nursery and getting ready for baby. I need to order a new carrier and the converter piece for my stroller but finally starting to feel a *little* more ready!!
GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born?
I am going to start making some freezer meals in July and compile a collection of menus from all the local restaurants that deliver :). I also have changed my cleaning lady's service to weekly instead of twice a month so I have less housework.

  • How many weeks are you: 32w5d How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Physically just ok. I'm battling a cold right now and it's making me feel pretty run down in general. Emotionally I'm mixed. I'm getting more and more excited, but also more and more anxious about how DS will do when baby gets here. I just want to protect his little heart and I don't want him to feel less loved. I know it's all part of the process, and that he'll be better for it in the long run, but it's hard to get there right now.

Upcoming appointments or milestones: Nothing for a couple weeks.

What's been going down this past week: We had our growth scan on Tuesday. Baby looks great. She's on the small side (30th percentile), but still in normal range. The perinatologist doesn't think we need another scan, but is leaving that up to my OB. She was breech though, and the peri seemed slightly concerned just given the timing. The very next day I saw my OB and baby was back to head down. I guess she's still busy doing flips! I won't worry about her position until 36 weeks or so. My work week was insane which I think is how I picked up this little cold. This week doesn't seem to be slowing down much, so I'm hoping I can recover. We are having a little "sprinkle" thrown for us on Friday, so I'm looking forward to that.

GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born? We'll be keeping DS in his normal daycare schedule and considering more if I need it. Otherwise, I seem to be planning things to make life more difficult instead of easier! We're still talking about a family vacation in August which we do every year (visiting my grandmother at her beach house on the Jersey Shore). That one is still up in the air...

How many weeks? 34 weeks 1 day

How are you feeling? Tired and my back hurts. I have been having a hard time sleeping at night and now my whole back aches.

    Upcoming appointments: 7/3

What's been going on this week? At my appointment last week, the doctor said I was measuring a cm bigger than I should be. I know that probably only means that she will be a bigger baby than DS was but secretly, I'm hoping that means she'll be born around 39 weeks then.

GTKY: What are you doing to make life after baby easier? I hope to make some freezer meals, but other than that not much. I don't have high expectations in those first few weeks and am preparing to just roll with it.

  • Hi everyone.. sorry I missed last week but things have been crazy around here.. I'll try to catch up on how you are doing..

How many weeks are you: 33weeks
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): drained in both ways
Upcoming appointments or milestones: I finally changed doctors.. I decided to go to the hospital for a checkup and met a female OB who did a quick check up during which I told her my story briefly and she said she could take my case and that my babies have the right to be well
Monitored and I should have been better managed during my pg.. I called my nightmarish doctor to cancel al future appointments today and felt relieved.. I will be in better hands now..

What's been going down this past week: well, that thing with the doctor change and some non stress monitoring at home with a nurse that was sent here from the hospital.. I'm still battling my hair loss which is so exhausting emotionally.. My anemia is still pretty bad and my GD became out of control and I started insulin.. Also DH has been transferred to japan so that will be happening for the 4 of us in October.. That is so surreal I haven't even allowed myself to process it.. We have to sell everything now and prepare for life in a new country/continent with two newborns after a csec.. Oh boy.. One day at a time..
GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born? I don't think it will be simple at all.. But my mom will be here so I will just let her take care of us for a little while..
  •  thanks for the check in, you're fantastic! And baby is no longer measuring three weeks ahead... he's measuring FOUR weeks ahead as of last Wednesday!  Oy.  My midwife scheduled a growth ultrasound for next Wednesday to get a better idea of why he's measuring so big.

    ------ Quote Fail -----

I would love to hear what the ultrasound shows and what they say!

  • How many weeks are you: 33w0d
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Pretty much the same. My back hurts, but that's my only complaint physically. Emotionally, things are getting better as baby is getting more active in there! I still have my moments, but they aren't as lasting as they used to be.
Upcoming appointments or milestones: Regular OB appt. next Thursday. 1 month until full term!
What's been going down this past week: Not much. I had my last student recital last Friday, so I'm officially done with my "year". My summer schedule is starting to fill in, but I'm trying to keep some time open for nesting.
GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born? No clue. Our parents will be here a bunch helping out, so that will help! I feel like just being home with DH and baby will make life simpler.

  • @bkroxfan003‌ happy birthday!!

@mdarmetko‌ - I am going with the beco Gemini, I was looking for a carrier that worked well with shorter people and this has good reviews. I didn't baby wear much with DS so I am looking forward to it this time! Hopefully this one will work :)

  • @mdarmetko - Thanks for the check-up. Things are going pretty good. All at once I have realized I am moving at a snail's pace because if I move any faster I either want to fall asleep or waddle.

How many weeks are you: 32 wks

How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Physically, tired and slow but other than that pretty well. Emotionally, I am starting to get really nervous about everything.

Upcoming appointments or milestones: Started my NST's today. I have to go twice a week. Fun! Fun! But at least I get to listen to baby boy's heartbeat the whole time.

What's been going down this past week: My husband leaves this weekend to go to out of town to visit his Mom who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. So my daughter and I made her a blanket so hopefully she knows we love her and would be there if possible.

GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born? I have already started on some freezer meals and my husband is taking off two weeks to help out because when we have LO it will be about the same time school is starting for my daughter.

  • @mdarmetko - so happy you are confident in your midwifery practice! That makes such a huge difference.

How many weeks are you: 33w5d
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): big and grumpy. I feel like I'm too sensitive to stressors these days and miss the mellow, not snippy me.
Upcoming appointments or milestones: next appt is on Tuesday. I think I have one more normal appt after that one before the weekly internals start.
What's been going down this past week: dd starts camp on Monday (YAY!!!!), so I have just been trying to keep her entertained as much as possible, even though all I want to do is lay down with a/c blasting. She's been great, thankfully.
GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born? I'm going to try to make some freezer meals. Also putting a twin bed in the nursery so I can sleep in there with the baby and let DH and dd sleep better. DD will also be in school three mornings a week, and I might step it up to five days.

  • @mdarmetko - No more contractions, so that is great news! Baby seems happy to stay in for now. I hope you survive this crazy time at work!

How many weeks are you: 31 and 3 days
How are you feeling (physically/emotionally): Ever since we went to the hospital to stop contractions, I have just been so excited to have her! I know it's too soon, but I'm really looking forward to when I do go into labor.
Upcoming appointments or milestones: My doctors are really ramping up the baby surveillance. I have NSTs and Biophysical Profiles twice a week from here on out. We also will have growth ultrasounds every 3 weeks because she is only 7th percentile. I really am glad the doctors are watching so closely though because I feel like if anything starts to go wrong, they will catch it.
What's been going down this past week: I have a class all week to update my teacher certification. I'm supposed to drink 100 ounces of water a day because of the contractions, so I sit there all day chugging water and walking all the way across the building to the bathroom. I feel like I keep getting pitying looks haha
GTKY: What will you be doing to make your life simpler for a little while after Baby is born? My husband is Italian and he could honestly eat spaghetti every day for the rest of his life, so I plan on freezing lots of sauce for easy meals. I'm also really lucky because he does a lot of the cleaning and household stuff already, so I think we will survive!

first son stillborn 7/20/13 at 39 weeks due to Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy
It's a girl! Baby Anna was born August 3, 2014!

@mdarmetko - yep, I use a heating pad almost nightly. I'm toying with the idea of making an appointment with my chiropractor to see if that helps.

  • @arusso07 - Sorry to hear about your MIL.  It was very sweet of you ladies to make her a gift.
@babypants11 - Camp will be fun for her… and you!
@Elbug - Sorry about your scare.  Our baby is measuring a week behind as well, but was told it's nothing to worry about.  Are you doing anything to try to flip the baby?
@esmith10 - Definitely don't let your summer schedule to get too full! Mama needs rest!
@ginny5683 - The 'how are you feeling' part of your post made me crack up haha.
@lingchow8655 - Ohhh your sisters wedding, how exciting!  Have fun!
@mmsweeney1 - I'm glad to hear the contractions have stopped and they've amped up the survelance.  It's reassuring for the PGAL brain.
@mv9310 - I'm glad it was just "practice labor" and not the real deal.  FX that baby cooks a little longer.

    @mdarmetko

I'm seeing a chiro once weekly.  We started the Webster technique two weeks ago (so two Webster appts so far).  Sadly my chiro is out of town this week :( but next week I'll see him Tuesday and Friday.

My MW also recommended I look into acupuncture so I'll call about that hopefully today or tomorrow.  I'm also reading up on spinningbabies.com for inversions.  Its really hard to do them several times per day since I work and my D thinks I'm a human slide when I'm on the ironing board upside down....

I even went as far as downloading the hypnobabies breech script.  Did it last night and baby moved around a lot but didn't flip.  I've read people had success with that plus doing a few extra fear clearing sessions.  I'm a bit skeptical but I'm trying it anyways since I'm already committed to hypnobabies so might as well take it one step further.

My MW doesn't like to do versions at 36/37 weeks and I'm apprehensive to do it also considering the risks for pre-term labor.  Deep down I know I would rather have a c/s of a full term baby than a version resulting in a premie.  She also said she also commonly waits until mom is in labor and does the version then with great success so we'll see.

I have time but I'm borrowing trouble and worrying about it.

Wow, that was a novel long response....

Basically everything I'd suggest.  I'm betting you can turn that kid around :D
