One & Done: Only child

Hey, remember that girl that was supposedly kicked out of KFC for being disfigured?

So it looks like it was all a hoax: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/06/24/report-viral-story-of-disfigured-girl-kicked-out-of-kfc-was-hoax/

It turns out the KFC that they originaly said it happened at had been closed for years. There's no footage that shows her in another one that they said they were in. It sounds like she's still going to get her injuries fixed since KFC committed to helping her but what a despicable family to make up a story like that.

  • That's awful! I hope that the adults are banned for life from ever going into a KFC again. Using their child's traumatic experience to prey upon KFC to give them money and then prey upon the public who also gave them money is despicable and disgusting. Who

  • Is it bad that this doesn't surprise me? I felt awful when I first read the story, but this has happened on several occasions and it makes me sick that these people would use their child/grand child's horrible experience for monetary gain.

  • I was sad when I heard this, and then I said "I wonder if this is real?" so sad and sick that this thought crossed my mind as I heard the story. So no, I'm absolutely not surprised.  But still sickened.  I would be so afraid to do something like this... I fully believe in karma.  Your job as a parent and grandparent is to love and protect them.  I can't imagine using them. Pisses me the hell off.

  • As a devils advocate, I have to imagine they were pretty desperate to attempt a hoax like this. They had to know they'd get caught.

But, so despicable. I'm glad the little girl's injuries are getting fixed regardless but still. Ugh.

Still not excuse, though I agree.  A lot of people go through hardships and don't lie to get ahead in that way, though.   It makes you think twice about giving for ANYTHING, even when it's true.  How many times on TB alone have people gone through things and people give, and then it comes out they were lying?  Sometimes it's not even a case of "they must be desperate to do this..." and more like "wow, they're perpetuate liars and have a disease" type of thing.

I hate when you wonder about everything and think twice.. and the story above is exactly why, and that sucks.

Oh that's very true, and I'm not excusing their behavior at all. There are much better avenues to take when you come upon desperate times. After reading that it was a hoax my gut reaction was basically "Ugh. This makes me sad to be part of the human race."

No I know you weren't. I was just being a devils advocate to your devils advocate ;)   Mostly, it sucks for the kid.   She will be judged, and she shouldn't be.  She's a child, doesn't know any better and none of this is her fault.  But she'll be judged.  And imagine when she's older and knows better? And reads this story? Such a shame.  Imagine her feelings one day when she reads she was used by her family.  :(

Right. Didn't this happen within the past few months on a BMB? I can't remember which one, but someone collected money for a poster who had a loss and then never gave her the money. So disgusting.
Sure did, and it was a host of the board that stole the money.  I just can't.  A few weeks ago H got home from the store and realized they didn't charge him for a pack of gum and we freaking went back!!!  A 5 minute drive to pay 69 cents. Because he was "I won't sleep if I don't pay for this..." ... it's just how we are.   How people do this is beyond me.

I remember that story. She ended up buying a rocking chair or something.

    Some people are really sick.

That's so true...especially with this up and coming generation. She'll either feel awful, or she'll grow up being an overly entitled brat.
