My plan is to do cupcakes from scratch.... but pillsbury mixes were on sale this week so I grabbed a couple as back up. I need to make a test batch from scratch to see how it goes
Kind of special snowflake. I make a homemade ice cream cake for most birthdays around here. For G's first I did a homemade cookie cake because it was Cookie Monster theme. We're not a big cake fan family!
No cake here. We are doing cupcakes but they are store bought. I am buying a big cupcake for KJ's smash cake. Everyone else will eat regular size cupcakes.
Can I put both? For his party, he had the free one that came with his cake. But we are going to celebrate with my ILs in a few days and I'll make a healthy one for that. I didn't just let him dig in all he wanted into the cake because I didn't want him to have all that sugar. So, the next one he can eat the whole thing if he wants :-)
SS: I know someone who bakes fancy cakes and paid her to make it. Since I paid for it, I voted store-bought, but technically it wasn't bought from a store.
Smash cake on her actual birthday was a delicious from scratch vanilla cake with ombré pink buttercream frosting. She cried, lol, and barely ate it. We had a little bday celebration with both sets of grandparents over the weekend. DH really wanted ice cream cake so I just picked up a single chocolate cupcake for M. She was either in a much better mood or really prefers chocolate to vanilla because she devoured the cupcake.
Funny story, my SO's aunt asked what I put into my cupcakes because they were so good, my response "Whatever Betty Crocker puts into her cupcakes." Then I made buttercream icing. Also! We had a few gluten free people at the party and I tried out a gluten free box mix made by President's Choice, so good. It tasted like regular cake.
