mastitis,, taking antibiotics and decrease of milk on that breast...

is it normal while it heals that is the boob i used to make more of and now that ive been taking the antibiotics is only making about half, will it get back to normal once i finish the antibiotics?

    When I has mastitis at 5w pp, I had a decrease in milk supply while on antibiotics. I had to supplement with formula because I wasn't producing enough while on the medication. It's very important that you keep up your supply with nursing and pumping. I pumped two three times a day and nursed but unfortunately I dried up so we are now using formula. Take care of yourself and good luck.

    Normal to have decreased supply, mine came back within a week if healing the mastitis. As pp said, you need to be diligent about nursing on that side & perhaps adding in some pumping sessions. I was also using the nipple shield at the time so I had to pump after nursing to ensure my supply didn't drop off.

    I had this 2w pp and just nursed on demand. Luckily LO didn't need much because he was so young. My supply came back and now that side produces almost twice as much as the other side.

    My LC didn't want me to pump though while I was healing because she was concerned about me getting a yeast infection or DS developing thrush. If either happened then we would've needed to be treated for a fungal infection and the pump parts would need to be sterilized again. Of course my crazy self sterilized the parts anyway.

    Yes, that's normal. I'm 7 days into my antibiotic treatment for mastitis, and that breast is still not producing as much. Keep nursing as much as possible on that side and try to drink a TON of water.

    Has anyone's LO had a reaction to your antibiotics? Mine has had terrible diarrhea, but I don't want to stop in case the mastitis comes back.

    Thank you ladies!!! I had a really good supply so I wanted to make sure that I was good I have a super stash in the freezer so wouldn't have to supplement thank god
