Blended Families

Intro

Hi everyone!  I have lurked a little when I first realized that my BF and were most likely going to be blending families. Well, it is happening a little sooner than planned. I found out this weekend that I am expecting a little surprise in February! I had trouble getting pregnant with DS, and I was on BC, so this is a shock, but a welcomed one.
We have been together officially (told kids) for about a year and a half. I am very close with his daughter, and getting closer with his boys each day. I have one little boy and they adore each other. The plan was to fix up his house to sell, then get engaged, and look for the right place for all of us, then get married and move in together. We can't all fit in either of our houses now, and both of our custody agreements don't allow for us to live together unless we are married.
Needless to say the house hunt has now become a priority and a challenge trying to find room for all 5 kids, us and our dog.
I am not naive to the struggles we will face with step-parenting and especially with a new baby entering the mix. I hope I can learn  from those you who have been there, done that.

His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!

  • Welcome and good luck!  Thats a lot to do in a short amount of time!

  • It is!!  I am just a "teeny" bit stressed!!

Luckily we were already started on fixing up the house, we have done what we can until the contractors start. We also have a few houses we love, but adding a fifth child really changes the number of bedrooms we need! As for getting married, we may just have to do a quick wedding just the two of us. I can't imagine still having two separate homes when the baby is born.

  • If I could do it all over again, I'd do a wedding just the two of us (+kids) on a boat outside the Pacific Northwest (where we plan to retire). In fact, that's what we plan to do for our vow renewal.

However, I loved our wedding and we DIYed quite a bit and had help from our families. That being said, we didn't have any kids besides SD, so we weren't thinking about home-buying, etc. It was important at the time to have a family affair for our families and SD family (her grandparents, great-grandparents,aunts, uncles, cousins attended), but now I can't help but think that we could've had more $$ for a bigger down payment on a bigger house, or even splurged on a better honeymoon.

  • Welcome and congrats! Sounds like a whirlwind of activity for 9 months, but then again a blended family often is a whirlwind! :)
