Toddlers: 24 Months+

The breakfast post got me thinking...Lunch ideas?

The breakfast post below made me wonder...what do you typically give LO for lunch?  I swear DS would eat chicken fingers every day if I let him.  It is very difficult to get him to eat fruit/vegetables--I offer them at every meal and sometimes he eats them, most times he wants nothing to do with them.  I feel like we've gotten into a chicken/burger/pasta rut.  I try to give leftovers from the night before whenever I can.

What are your go-to lunches?

  • PBJ, turkey and cheese sandwich, grilled cheese, cheese and crackers, leftovers, hummus and feta in a pita pocket, quesadilla with cheese and black beans, Annie's mac and cheese or Bernie O's, along with berries, peas, carrots, avocado, applesauce, snap peas, or some kind of seasonal fruit and/or veggie.

  • Oops didn't see that! Thank you! I can't for the life of me get DS to eat a "sandwich" of any kind. He's big on textures and even peanut butter freaks him out. He's also only recently been adding dairy back to his diet (he was intolerant) so anything heavy on the cheese is still a no go for us but this post definitely has given me some new ideas. Thanks again!

I don't know why, but I feel like sandwiches can be really hit or miss for some kids.  The size, keeping the insides on the inside, etc.   When my guy was younger we did "deconstructed sandwiches" a lot, so he could eat just the meat/cheese/bread/slice of tomato/etc. without having to keep it all together.  I don't know if that would work for you, or if you even want to mess with it.  Not eating sandwiches is probably not the worst issue one could have.
