How long was your LO unhappy after their shots?

LO had her shots this morning and took them like a champ but has been a little out of sorts since. She has mostly been sleeping but woke from her last nap really upset. She is now nursing and I have to take her to pick DS up from camp and I am hoping she doesn't have a total meltdown. She has not had any Tylenol at this point, and no fever, but I am trying to figure out if I should give her Tylenol or just ride it out. So I am wondering how long it took other babies to recover from their first round of shots. I know all babies are different and all that jazz - just looking for input from those that have BTDT. It has been a while since I did this with DS.

  • I gave my son Tylenol. I figure if it were me not feeling well I would want something and this is pretty much their first bout with pain from something. He was pretty sleepy afterward but did ok. I gave him some when have e got the shot in the morning then later in the afternoon when he was getting fussy and again to get settled for bed. The next day he was back to normal. If I were you I would give it to her especially if she will be in a car seat and not getting cuddled.

  • My DS got his shots today as well. He hasn't been any fussier than normal, but he has been very tired. I had to give him Tylenol because he was running a low grade fever. I would only give Tylenol if she is extremely fussy like she's in pain or if she runs a fever.

LO took them like a champ, nursed right after, and was fine for about 4 hours.  Then he went into total pain nightmare that evening.  We had to give him Tylenol.  He would nurse, then scream and cry tears and nothing could soothe him.  DH and I passed him back and forth for about 4 hours til he finally passed out on DH and we moved him to his crib and he slept well that night.

I won't lie.  Usually nursing makes him all better.  Having him scream bloody murder during a feeding?  I turned into a blubbery mess and DH had to swoop in and save us.
  • Was cranky for the rest of the evening, fine the next day. Gave Tylenol after she woke from her nap, but she didn't need it after that.

  • Was a total mess during the shots but once it was over he was knocked out. Woke up fussy a few times during the day but nothing a small snack couldn't fix. I woke him up during the evening to go see a friend and he was himself again. No issues overnight either.
  • Thanks everyone. She seems to be coming around. Took another nap and is a little happier now. She definitely wants her mommy time which is fine - I let her sleep on me for a while. I have not given Tylenol since she seems better.

  • My LO had her shots today too. She slept well right after, but since she woke up she has been alternating between crying hard and light fussing with a small nap squeezed in between. She is not eating well either. I hope she gets a good long nap this afternoon and is feeling better

New studies show that Tylenol decreases the effectiveness of vaccines. Our ped strongly recommended not using any.

E cried for a couple of minutes right after the shots and was fussy all of that evening. She slept like a champ and was back to normal by the next morning.

This is us today too! She has a slight fever, so I finally gave in and gave her Tylenol.
  • Her shots were at 11am, have her Tylenol before bed, around 8- and was fine by the time she woke up.
