I just wrapped up a 2.5 mile run this morning, so I thought I'd start us off!

How were your runs this week? Did you get out there as much as you wanted?

GTKY - What quirks or routine do you have before you run?

  • How were your runs this week? Did you get out there as much as you wanted? Ok, but I only made it out twice because of our weekend trip. They were good 4.5 mile runs though, so 9 miles total is better than nothing.

GTKY - What quirks or routine do you have before you run? I walk the first .25-.5 mile to warm up.

  • How were your runs this week? Did you get out there as much as you wanted? I did well. I have run a 5k the past 3 weekends. Yesterday I ran my first 5k without stopping. It was on a track (very flat) at a local park, but I was still proud of myself. I haven't been doing my sprints/interval runs during the week like I've wanted, but that's what I'm about to do now.

GTKY - What quirks or routine do you have before you run? I don't have any quirks... I don't think. Typically, I get dressed, gather my stuff (phone, headphones, & water), and go. I typically do a 2 mile quick walk first to warm up my legs and then run.

Non-existent. :'(  It was obscenely hot and humid here last week, and I have a really hard time running in the humidity. I have a touch of asthma, and waste more energy just trying to get air in my lungs then I do actually running. And I hate treadmills, contrary to most - the summer is actually the hardest running season for me. I prefer the spring and fall. It was a little cooler this weekend, but my hubby and I are in the process of moving - so that pretty much took up all my time and energy.
GTKY - What quirks or routine do you have before you run?

I really don't have any. In truth I don't even stretch before I run, I guess I've just read enough out there that suggests stretching before doesn't make much of a difference, I'll stretch afterwards, and use a foam roller on my calves and quads, but that's really it. I don't even listen to music, in fact if I'm running outside I prefer to just run in silence. I like the sound of my feet hitting the ground, birds chirping in trees - I like being out in the nature of it all, for me I feel like the music takes away from that experience.
  •  How were your runs this week? Did you get out there as much as you wanted? I ran 4 days last week, so hit my goal! YAY! I only ran 2 miles each day and my Thursday run was more of a fast walk than a run but at least I did it.

GTKY - What quirks or routine do you have before you run? I usually put it off for as long as possible when I get home from work, so I will dink around at the house, water my plants, do some bumping, facebook, you know pretty much all the stall tactics. Once I'm bored with that I will throw on the running clothes and get going, making sure I have some poop bags for the dog. I usually feel SO much better with the first block of running, I don't know why I drag it out to get going!

I actually had some great runs this week. Tuesday I did a 5k trail race, beating my previous time by 26 seconds. Thursday I did a quick and easy 2.5 miles. Friday we did a 10 mile hike up a mountain in Virginia, complete with a very challenging rock climb. I was surprisingly only mildly sore the next morning, but couldn't breathe very well due to a wicked head cold. I wanted to do my run, so H went with me and got me through 11 miles! I felt great the whole time...then the head cold/congestion came back and I've been fighting it ever since. Blergh.

GTKY - What quirks or routine do you have before you run?
I put on my running clothes, fill up a water bottle, eat a banana, and start up my GPS watch. Nothin' to it but to do it. :)

  • Sorry for the post and run this morning! Got sucked into a 'crisis' as soon as I walked into work.

How were your runs this week? Did you get out there as much as you wanted?
I didn't get out there nearly as much as I wanted. We traveled to Minnesota over the weekend and I've never seen so many mosquitos in my entire life. There was no way I was going to run in that swarm.

GTKY - What quirks or routine do you have before you run? Usually the same routine: wake up, temp, potty, brush teeth, get clothes on, downstairs to care for dog, he eats and rests, I have a little coffee (not much at all) and get my shoes on while he dances in my face, then we're off. I am picky about my shoes though.. I have to tuck my laces under the other straps... it drives me nuts when they bounce against my leg or shoes. Same for hair..low pony or messy bun...no bouncing! lol!

    @AuroraP725‌ Congrats on the 5K! That's awesome!

@oursecretelopement‌ I LOVE running with my dog..what kind do you have? Mine was dragging a bit this morning...2.5 is further than we've done for awhile and he kept stopping (we go off leash once we hit our dead-end road) and looking at me like.."Why are you still going?" haha!

@WestCoastGirl05‌ I'm the same way with humidity..It's so draining..and I don't like being all sticky..sweaty..that's fine..but there's nothing like trying to dig your shorts and undies off of your rear end!

@Slapalicious‌ That class sounds great! Good job keeping with the jogger pace!

@packerfan4life‌ That hike sounds amazing! I always feel a good hike the next day...my quads feel like jelly!

  • @JNCPro3130 -congrats on the 5k!
@AuroraP725 - yay for the PR!

How were your runs this week? Did you get out there as much as you wanted?
I slacked this week.  Did my short runs all week, but didn't run at all this weekend.  I wanted to meet up with some friends and run, but the baby shower I went to was too early in the morning.

GTKY - What quirks or routine do you have before you run? No quirks, but my run routine depends on when I'm running.  If I run in the morning, I have all my stuff laid out the night before so I can throw it on, hook up the dog, and go.  At work or after work, I download the latest episode of Zombies Run while I change and then I hit the road.

    **snip***

This!! That happens to me all the time, and of course it only happens on days when the trail is packed with other runners, so I can't even dig the wedgie out discreetely! Not cute!!
  • @epidemic I have 2 pitty mixes. The boy likes to pee every 3 feet so I don't usually bring him (a lot of times i bring the girl and my husband brings the boy).

My girl is probably 3 years old and 40 pounds and she can keep below a 9:00 pace for 3-5 miles, but sometimes I have to drag her at the end or up hills...and she does NOT cooperate for sprints
That's awesome! My pup is an Australian Shepherd, almost a year old. He's about 55 lbs and such a good motivator. Our neighborhood is mostly hills, so he's game for that, lol. Since I can let him off leash for our dead-end road, he definitely stops and does his thing, then sprints past me while my sprint probably ends up being slower than my reg pace LOL!

I'm so jealous that you guys have dogs that will run with you! I have 2 dogs (see siggy). My sweet westie is the princess and looks at me like I'm crazy if I say walk to her. My Scottie gets SO excited to go on a walk, but the heat and his black hair mean he can't walk for long without getting over heated. :(
