Are you any of you having contractions? UPDATE IN OP

I fought contractions and preterm labor almost the entire pregnancy with son 8 years ago, and it was expected I would do the same this time around. I had the cerclage placed at 14 weeks and my cervix has been measuring great every 2 weeks since then. The past two weeks, however, I have been experiencing contractions. There is no consistency whatsoever to them, and they vary in strength as well. Some days I don't have one, others I have maybe 1-2 strong ones then the little Braxton hicks that will go away if I change positions or something. I have an appnt today with my MFM where we'll be doing another ultrasound and cervical check, so I'll find out this afternoon if its normal for this to be happening; or if its time to start progesterone shots to stop the contractions; but I was just curious if anyone else is experiencing them by any chance? For most women, the Braxton hicks are of no concern but for me with my condition; they are enough to open my cervix unfortunately. Since there's been no consistency; I've not felt it was necessary to go in. Hoping that wasn't a mistake when I see my cervical length today!!

UPDATE: My cervix measured 5.47 so the contractions are NOTHING to be concerned with, SO happy to hear that today :) . He said that the cerclage is doing its job for sure! I will however, be starting the P17 shots either this week or next because of the contractions now plus the preterm labor with DS. Other news, but will update on my other thread about that. Thanks everyone!

I've had a couple, but I also have partial placenta previa, so it isn't unexpected. I did not have them until much later last time around, so it is a little weird for me. I hope your appointment goes well today!

  • When they were attempting to do my cvs at 14 weeks I was contracting but I could not feel them. The MFM Dr told me they are throughout your whole pregnancy. It was interesting to watch them via US. You could see them ripple effect and squish the placenta upwards.

  • Good luck today!

I had BH starting around 17-18 wks with my twins and had them the rest of my pregnancy. They were actually pretty strong and I didn't even know the difference when they were actually real and I was in labor!

I'm 19wk, 2 days today and nothing so far!

    Glad everything worked out!

Not trying to hijack your post, but wondering, as a FTM, will I know what a contraction feels like? I'm kind of worried I won't be able to recognize them.

@absolutelymaybe‌ I honestly didn't know the difference. Mine at 17/18 weeks weren't strong, but progressively got stronger as time went. By the time I had my girls (34w4d) they were strong but never more than 3 in an hour. However, I was dilated 5-6cm from my "Braxton hicks" without actually realizing that's what was happening! I definitely think I'm the exception, not the rule, though. I think most people know! You're pregnant with twins, right?!

Edited to actually answer your question! BH for me felt liked entire stomach would get hard and the only thing that would relax it was water or rest or changing position. When they got stronger it was a similar sensation. Real contractions can also be timed.
