Trying to Get Pregnant

Feeling happy and relieved!

Just wanted to share:

I went back to my OB/gyn today for a follow-up after my myomectomy in May. He say everything looks perfect, as though the fibroids were never there. For some reason I had this fear that something would be wrong , I can get slightly obsessive that way  ;)

He confirmed that we can actively start ttc in Aug, and said that if I am not pregnant within six months, I should go to him again. I know the standard is one year, but I suppose he would want to see me sooner if nothing happens, knowing that there has already been issues.

Probably a slightly nonsensical (is that a word?) post, just wanted to share.

Have a good day!

  • Glad everything is ok! I can be really obsessive about certain things to, so I can appreciate the relief you must feel about knowing that everything is fine.

  • I had a myoectomy done in December of 2012. Was yours done with the Davinci robot? Just curious? I had two softball sized fibroids removed with the Davinci robot. Because of the size of the fibroids, I had to wait a year before TTC. Unfortunately, during that year, fibroids came back. I didn't know this until I got KU and had my first ultrasound. They found 8 fibroids that range in size from one inch to two inches in diameter. It sucks, lol.

Anyway, glad you're healing well and good luck TTC! Just thought I'd share my experience for some reason, lol.

@ImJessesGirl sorry about your troubles! Did the fibroids impact on your pregnancy?

I had to have an abdominal myomectomy due to location of the fibroids. I had 4, around 2 inches. I was expecting to wait at least six months, so I was so stoked to get the go-ahead today!

I was scared (okay, paranoid :P ) that there would be more when I had the u/s today. I know there is always the chance that it could come back, but for now I'm just going to focus on staying healthy and trying to be relaxed about everything!

  • @FJM85 well, I'm only 9 weeks and 1 day, so so far not yet. I go for another ultrasound on Friday and we'll see if they've grown. I really really hope they haven't. I can tell you it didn't get in the way of me getting pregnant because I got pregnant the second cycle post BCP and my first cycle charting.
However, at my first appointment, the fibroids caused shadows on the ultrasound, which resulted in the ultrasound tech telling me that I had a blighted ovum and sent me directly to the doctor, who then told me the ultrasound tech could've been wrong. I had to wait a couple days and get a follow up ultrasound at the hospital with a better machine, and they could see the baby and a heartbeat. The fibroids were hiding the baby, basically. So far, that's the only "complication" it has had on my pregnancy.
My doctor did assure me that fibroids rarely cause any other problems during pregnancy. Only if the placenta attaches to a fibroid would it be an issue. Also, due to the amount and placement of the fibroids, if I were even a candidate for vaginal delivery post myoectomy (I'm not), I wouldn't be able to because the fibroids block the cervix.

    Sorry for the novel, lol.

@ImJessesGirl good luck with the rest of the pregnancy! I hope all stays well and that the fibroids doesn't cause problems.

I asked the doctor about vaginal birth yesterday - he said while he does support vbac, my case makes it difficult because of the location of the scars as well as the depth. But I'm not too worried about that. I will just be happy to be pregnant!
