When LO sleeps through the night, do you pump?

My LO usually sleeps 4 hrs hen wakes to eat, do you can imagine my surprise and worry when he was still sleeping at 7 hours! My right boob was so engorged I could not go back to sleep. I waited a half hour and he was not awake but he was stirring around so I finally just picked him up and fed. For those who get this much sleep every night - do you pump in the middle of the night, or just wait it out?

  • Wait, but I will sometimes wake with kiddo and pump the less full side to freeze it, then offer her the more engorged side when she wakes. It's the only way I can put milk away for later. I'm too lazy and annoyed to add pumping sessions during the day.

I do what @MamaFantastic‌ does and I've built a pretty good freezer stash this way. When DD sleeps til morning I nurse on one side and pump on the other. I only pumped in the middle of the night if I woke up in pain. Generally I sleep through it though. Now that she is sleeping through the night more regularly I am used to it.

Our LO goes to bed for the night way before we do, so
I pump in the evening before we go to bed,  I am engorged by the middle of the night but I wait as I don't have enough milk for him in just the one boob.
  • My dd usually sleeps 7-9 hrs a night and I wait until morning but usually nurse her and then pump on the fuller side and usually can pump about 5 oz which is way more than any other time I try to pump. I also have quite a lot of milk stored up.

  • You can pump to relieve engorgement, but if you pump in the MOTN, then you will continue to get engorged.   Your body should adjust pretty quickly.

LO has been sleeping really well that last few weeks.  I pump before bed.  In the morning, I wake up before he does, so I will usually pump one side right away (I can get about 5-6 ounces from one side), and will "save" the other side for him when he wakes up.

  • Our guy is inconsistent with his sleeping and I have to feed both sides so I feed him and put him down for the night, pump about 2 hours later and go to bed. If he wakes up 2 hours later, I can feed and if he sleeps through the night I'm engorged but not painfully so.

  • I just wait to feed him in the morning, I'm a bit engorged but it's not too painful so I don't care too much. He only wakes up to eat during the night very rarely though, so maybe my body is already adjusting?
