I had a bad migraine at work and a random patient rubbed an essential oil on my neck and it went awsu very quickly. I really really wish I knew what it was. I am also surprisediI let a random sstranger rub an unknown oil on me.
My kids' sitter is selling them now, so she's gotten us into them. We have a blend we've been using as an alternative to bug spray that is pretty effective. You just dab it on your pulse points.
I've used peppermint for headaches and nausea and it seems to help. I also like to put some drops of peppermint in a spray bottle with water and use it like Febreeze around the house. It's supposed to keep bugs and spiders away, but more importantly, I feel like the smell makes me feel more alert and relaxed.
I use peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender and lemon oils pretty regularly in my homemade lotions and chapsticks - stuff like that. Tea tree oil is good for cleaning.
If we're battling sinuses or colds, I will put a few drops of eucalyptus or mint on a wet washcloth and put it on my kids' foreheads or chests. It seems to help open them up.
I also used lavender on a wet washcloth during my last labor. The smell was calming.
Anyways, I'm just starting to get into it because of my sitter. I think it's fun and even if there aren't any real health benefits, I like the smells
These are the brand doTERRA (I think that's right). I'm specifically looking at the in-tune blend for ADD. Its for myself. I have been self managing my symptoms for years. I refused any medication when I was a teenager (and still do). But with the addition of DD in my life I need something else, cause I'm drowning. Was hoping by the time I hit 30 I'd have this under control by now
doTERRA is what my kids' sitter is selling. The bug blend I bought is from them. I also just placed an order with her for the Balance blend, which is supposed to help stabilize moods. She brought the samples to me and I liked the smell, so I figured I would give it a try. I can always use a little help keeping calm on the rough days with the kids
I feel like doTERRA is slightly overpriced and I could put the same thing together on my own for cheaper, but I like supporting my sitter.
Can I just say that I was smelling my sitters' samples and she gave me the frankincense and I about puked? That stuff smelled nasty. And my first thought was, out of all the smells to bring to baby Jesus, THAT is what they chose. lol
Seriously though, I have no idea what frankincense oil is good for, but it smells like VOM.
I chose young living because of the purity of their products. YL is the only company that owns their own farms therefore they are the only company that knows 100% what's in the bottle. Do terra adds synthetic materials to some of their oils and I believe they had to take the "100%" off of their labels because they were not 100% pure.
I have heard this about YL as well. And bc of the purity the oiils are basically food grade. Someone told me that she gargles with some of her YL oils (heavily diluted, of course).
I have been using TTO to make my own deodorant. It works well. But now that it's hot out I'm terrified that I smell and am going to temporarily return to the chemical stuff.
I've been around in DC IRL and she smells great, y'all!
I love DoTerra oils. My entire family uses them for many things. I do not use them for much but have found that some really do work. Lavender is calming, it relaxes my (undiagnosed) restless leg syndrome at night. It is also a good "skin" oil. I've put it on a burn and mosquito bite. All have felt better within a minute. The frankincense does smell bad but I smashed my finger in the car door yesterday and I've been putting that and lavender on it. Other than the slight bruise that's left I can't tell that I hurt it as bad as I did. The digest zen works for tummy issues and I've used it many times for acid reflux and I use it on our dog if he seems to have tummy issues. Lemon oil is good for kidney stones. I had them while pregnant and once I started adding it to a glass of water a day, I didn't even feel it pass. I could really go on about a lot of it but I'll stop.
I haven't had a chance to read all of the responses yet but I wanted to chime in while I had a chance. I've used EO's for about a year now. I buy online from Heritage Essential Oils. They are pure, high quality oils but without the direct sales approach. A family out of TX runs the site and they have a private facebook page. I've learned a ton from that page and from talking to the mom of the family that runs it. My favorite part of their site is that they sell sample sizes for around $3-5. I've tried everything this way so that I don't go broke finding what works for our family.
