Sleeping issues already!?!

Last time I was pregnant I didn't have any sleeping issues until I got much bigger but this time I can't say the same. I feel like every time I go to roll over I wake up and then I have to pee and then I have a hard time falling back to sleep. I guess the only point to this post was to bitch a bit. Anyone else having any sleeping issues? Any remedies?

Re: Sleeping issues already!?!

  • I feel your pain, my sleep issues started very early. I upped my daily exercise and stopped drinking water 2 or 3 hours before bed. Not watching anything on the television or playing around on my phone a couple hours before bed helps a lot as well. Those things were sufficient enough for me to sleep soundly most nights but I'll still have a bitch of a time falling asleep sometimes. For those nights, I get up and slowly enjoy a cup of Celestial Seasonings' Sleepytime Extra tea in the dark on the couch.

Talk with your doctor first if you're interested in the tea, I needed approval from my midwife to continue drinking it while pregnant because the "extra" is valerian and can be contraindicated in pregnancy.

  • I've been having to get up to pee alot too and its hard for me to fall back asleep due to dog whining or husband snoring, or just being distracted by other random things. I've started using ear plugs and an eye mask and it's helped a lot! Ear plugs don't block everything but definitely make a difference.
  • I've been uncomfortable sleeping too. If I'm on one side too long it hurts and if im on my back too long it's uncomfortable. I've never had to get up to pee in the middle of the night and that happens all the time now. I can only imagine what the next 5 months are going to be like!

Try silicone swimmers ear plugs, they're squishy like clay and form a seal over the ear canal instead of resting inside like the traditional foam ones. In my experience they block out almost all of DH's snoring.

  • I've been having a really hard time sleeping too. Between insomnia and getting up to pee, nights have been terrible. With dd is wasn't anywhere close to this bad until mid third trimester.

  • I slept the best ever during my entire pregnancy last time. No joke. This time I've had the hardest time getting and staying asleep due to not being comfortable. Grr
  • Same here. It is a very rare occasion when I keep to my pre - pregnancy sleep routine. I either keep the smart phone or kindle near the bed so I can use that if I have insomnia and not bother DH.

  • Yep. I pee 2-3 times a night and I get such a stuffy nose sometimes I'm miserable.

@ezridax‌ had some good tips I'm going to try.

Laying in bed right now wide awake and uncomfortable :/ at least I have something to read.... :)
  • I usually have a hard time falling asleep at night, but lately it has been 100 times worse. Last night was awful, I tossed and turned all night and its finally gotten uncomfortable to sleep on my stomach, which is frustrating because I have an extremely hard time sleeping in other positions. Needless to say, I'm being a bit lazy at work today because I don't have the energy to do anything.

  • I've been having a hard time sleeping for a few weeks already. I just ordered a pregnancy pillow, which is enormous and looks pretty ridiculous but it's pretty amazing. It's like a soft & cushy nest! I am still waking up feeling exhausted however.

  • I have to get up to pee 2 plus times every night, but usually fall back asleep right away. However last night I could not get comfortable at all. My stomach hurt all night & I have a head cold to top it off, the only thing that was comfortable was sitting straight up in bed. I hope it was just a fluke because it's going to be a rough next 5 months if it's like this all the time! =/
  • I never had problems sleeping until the end of my first pregnancy. Now I'm lucky if I get three hours of sleep at night. My doctor told me to take benadryl before bed to help me sleep. It sometimes helps. Other then the benadryl I have no other solution. Wish I did!

Sometimes I feel like I should just sleep on the toilet. I wake up nearly every hour or two to go pee. And then I have 3 cats and a husband squishing me into an uncomfortable Z position. I miss sleeping on my belly.

  • When I was pregnant with my DS I woke up every two hours all night long.  That was ok because I eventually got used to it and could go back to sleep quickly.  This time I just plain have insomnia.  It's terrible and really affecting me during the day.  I'm already extra tired because I'm pregnant with a 3 year old and then I only get a few hours of sleep per night.  I am hating it.

  • I keep waking up really in the middle of the night. I stay awake for an hour or so and then fall back to sleep.
