Feeling faint and weird?

I'm 14 weeks and i keep feeling like I'm going to pass out. It just comes on, I feel dizzy and faint and sometimes sick. I had to lie on the cold kitchen floor today for 5 mins till it passed. I'm not sure if it's low blood pressure (I think mine is a little on the low side normally anyway) or maybe low blood sugars? I've also been getting bad headaches too. I try and eat something sweet if I feel this way but not sure if the sugar is helping, or if it's passing on its own? It's happened about 4/5 times the past 3 weeks. Anyone know why this is happening? X

Re: Feeling faint and weird?

  • Definitely worth mentioning to your doctor. There's a lot of growth happening in weeks 14-16 so try to eat a little extra and see I that helps. Hope you feel better.

  • I have an appointment with my midwife on July 1st so if it doesn't happen before them I'll just mention it when I see her. If it keeps happening I might ring and see what she says. Thank u xx

  • First and foremost, you need to see your doctor about this!

While you're waiting for your appointment try eating something salty or upping your iron.

I have iron issues and super low blood pressure and when I don't have those things in check I react how you just described.

I would also call your doc.  Make sure you're drinking a lot of fluids and eating a lot.

  • Thanks everyone - if it happens again I'll give my doctor or midwife a call. I'm worried it happens when I'm out on my own or at work. X

  • I had kind of similar feelings earlier this week and found out I was severely dehydrated. Make sure you're drinking enough!

  • I just talked to my doctor about this. She said protein intake was vital. So make sure you're getting enough protein!

  • Ah maybe that's a problem. In first tri especially I couldn't face chicken and most other meats. I've been really busy today and it's been warm so maybe I haven't drank enough water and I've tired myself out. Thank everyone for the advice. X

I have low blood pressure AND hypoglycemia. My LBP causes me to black out almost every single time I stand up. But, the hypoglycemia is the worst, and my advice is if you think it is your blood sugar do not just eat something sugary. That will spike it and then just make it plummet worse. If you feel like your blood sugar is low, eat something a little sweet and follow up right away with some protein as well(boiled egg, stick of cheese, piece of jerky, whatever). That will help stabilize it instead of give you a temporary fix that leaves you feeling worse in 15 minutes.

Either way talk to your dr about it! Hope you can figure it out.

ETA: Didn't read the previous poster before I posted....didn't mean to beat that dead horse.

  • They say light headedness and dizzy spells are to be expected coming into second tri. I damn near passed out in big lots with my daughter a week or so ago. But regardless doctors know best (in most situations.) I blame it on the fact I'm still not eating like I should be plus there's a UTI I haven't been taking the medication for either. Its still scary to go out with her and have no one else with us.

  • in the first tri i got dizzy every time i stood up and sometimes almost passed out.
Now at 16 weeks this seems to have passed.
But i'd make sure they test your iron levels when you have your next appointment. It might just be your body coping with the extra blood production though. My iron levels were fine despite the dizziness and there wasn't anything else wrong either.

  • I have been feeling dizzy and not being able to see for a few seconds as I stand up. I have an appt on Tuesday so I was going to mention it to my doctor.

  • This has happened to me several times. It hits out of now where. I ended up in the hospital on Friday because of it. I was severally dehydrated and not eating enough. I'm 16 weeks now, today I have been drinking water constantly and snacking throughout the day and haven't had an episode so I guess it seems to be helping. The only thing I'm still experiencing are the massive headaches. Definitely talk to your doctor and stay hydrated. Hope you fell better or get the answers you need. :)
