calendula oil. Also, a blend of coconut oil and shea butter for moisturizing. And then we do lots of oatmeal baths. I steep the oats in the tub by putting them in the foot of an old pair of pantyhose, and then dip just like a tea bag in warm water. If you squeeze the oats in the pantyhose you'll see the saponins coming out and clouding the water. Once it gets nice and oily/cloudy, it's ready. It works really well. DS2 had terrible eczema that bled in the winter and that really helped.
Also, we limit baths (apart from the oatmeal baths) during a flare up of eczema. And no soaps.
Your DS has FPIES right? Rhys' eczema is caused by internal factors so, no matter what we do from the outside, it won't go away until the internal cause is resolved. Has he been exposed to something that is causing the flare-up (food wise, I mean)?
He does have FPIES and due to a recent cross contamination issues he has not had any new foods until a few days ago, which was after the eczema started. I did change , and then switch back again, out laundry detergent. I think that is my culprit.
Thanks ladies for the cream recommendations, I will try some.
Also, he is allergic to oats, so none in the bath, any other thoughts of what I can put in the tub?
Bleach baths are old school advice. And it's also not good advice because in certain individuals, chlorine will aggravate the eczema. My older sister didn't develop eczema until she started doing competitive swimming in chlorinated pools as an adult.
Anything with saponins will work for the bath in place of oatmeal. Soap nuts are a great alternative and they are dual purpose. Have her soak in them and then there is no need to scrub and irritate the spots since they will cleanse her.
