do you give your wifi password to sitters?

just curious...i have in the past to adult sitters who i knew would be doing work after the kids went to bed. a teenaged sitter recently asked me if she could have it but chances are we will be home before the kids go to bed. I was thinking I'd give it to her with the understanding that it is not to be used until the kids go to bed but just wondering how others approach this...

Re: do you give your wifi password to sitters?

  • none of them have asked to be honest. and we've had at least 5 sitters. but I think you are right, give it to her but explain that you expect she won't be needing it until after the kids are in bed
  • Loading the player...
  • I guess I also am a little wary b/c I assume she'll be on her phone (unless she shows up w/ something else) so if she needs to text or surf the internet can't she just use her plan...??? Eh, I don't know why I'm hesitant, maybe b/c It seems like it just gives free reign to text & play around on the phone the whole time she is supposed to be playing w/ them.
  • Our sitters are mostly our friends, and most of the time we ask them to sit is from 7pm and beyond (kiddo's bedtime is at 8). So yes, we do because we figure they need something to do after 8:30 and why force them to use data.
  • Thanks all, that is what I did- we have a 'guest' network on ours and gave her that one and told her I assumed she wouldnt be using it until after they were in bed...
  • Yes we had a college student who babysat and the kids were often napping. She asked if she could have the wifi password to do schoolwork during nap.

Our password is on the fridge for anyone to use.

If she isn't distracted by phone  then it will be TV or magazine or anything else
  • Yes. It's no big deal. If she's going to ignore your kid, she can do it without wifi too.
This. And you don't need wifi to surf the web, she can use her plan.
  • I watch my friends kids and I get the PW from them before they leave the house. Usually the kids are in bed/asleep before I get there so it's NBD. I can hear them better if I'm reading online than if I'm watching TV.

  • Definitely give the password.  They'll still have data if they really want to ignore your child.  ;)

  • Thanks all, I responded several days ago above so no need for additional posts :) I think the bump needs one of those 'question answered' features...
