help! LO has now been sleeping for 16 hours

(And this is not some kind of backdoor brag; he woke up to eat every four times within that window).

LO basically never woke up from his 4 pm nap yesterday. He stirred at 10 pm and took a bottle and I put him down for the night in his crib. He fed again and 12, 3 and 5:30. But...he is still sleeping (he would typically be up for the day at 7). Do babies go through periods of tons of sleep like this? He will be 7 weeks on Tuesday. Do I just let him sleep? At what point would you be alarmed?

As long as he's eating regularly and having enough wet/dirty diapers let him sleep and enjoy the break! He might also be super awake when he does wake up so be prepared just in case :)

  • Mine will be 7 weeks on Monday and has almost slept non stop for the last 2 days too! He wakes up to eat, and had a few spurts yesterday of being up for like an hour. But even after sleeping all the way through the night last night, he ate this morning at 7:30 and passed out again! I chalk it up to insane amounts of growth... If he was having weird changes in diapers, mood change, or symptoms of being ill I would be concerned. Or if it keeps up for another couple days. Right now I'm just going to enjoy the peace and quiet, because right before this hibernation he was an absolute bear!

  • Growth spurt. If you're not changing at least 6 wet diapers in 24 hours, then you should take him to the doctor.

  • Thank you ladies! Definitely growth spurt. He is now demanding to be fed every two hours since he's been awake. Pedi said to up the volume of food he's getting. If only this would translate somehow into sleeping through the night.
