Munire Crib Recall

Recalled: Painted cribs and matching furniture

Tue, Dec 23, 2008 (BabyCenter News) ? Munire Furniture has announced a recall of about 3,000 Newport rubbed black 4-in-1 cribs and 6,000 matching furniture pieces in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Red paint underneath the black finish on some of the cribs and matching furniture exceeds federal lead limits. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause serious health effects. Munire has received one report of a child ingesting the paint. The child was diagnosed with lead poisoning.

The recalled cribs and furniture are made of wood and have a rubbed black finish. Only the ?Newport Rubbed Black? cribs and matching furniture manufactured in Indonesia between April 2006 and November 2008 are included in this recall. The model number, date, and country of manufacture are printed on the label attached to the side panel of the crib. The date of manufacture is on the back panel of the furniture. The models included in this recall are listed in the chart below.

The cribs and furniture were sold at specialty furniture stores nationwide from April 2006 through November 2008. The cribs were sold for about $600 and the matching furniture pieces were sold for between $700 and $1,000. Additional accessories were sold for about $170. The pieces were made in Indonesia.

Man, DD has this crib and the hutch and dresser.  Luckily hers is in Expresso, weird thing is her crib has the same model number, but it is not the Rubbed Black.

I was shocked when I read this article. I cannot believe any of these companies use lead based paint anymore.
