How many convertable car seats?

As I'm reading stuff about deciding which convertible car seat, it sounds a lot like people are only buying one. Is that what you guys are doing? I feel like we need one for each car. If you're buying one, how are you making that work? Of you're buying two, is it two of the same or two different seats?

  • We just have one. It stays in my car most of the time, but we will occasionally switch to DHs truck. We have talked about getting another one of the same, but I just can't stomach the cost.

  • We have two of the same. It's just easier that way. I registered for 2 and we luckily got them both :)

We will get two. Right now we have the convertible and infant seat, next month we'll buy a second convertible.

I also feel like it would be a hassle to switch back and forth.

Married my love 8-25-12 TTC #1 September 2012. BFP 2-2-13. DS born 10-16-13.
TTC #2 in December 2014. BFP 12-31-14. Expecting a September baby!
  • DS hardly ever rides in H's truck right now. So we only have one. We will eventually get one of the same for H's truck once DS is riding with him more. For now it's just easier to switch back and forth.
  • We have 2. I got one for my baby shower that's been in my car since day one. Dh had the infant seat in his car. We just got a convertible for his car but not the same as mine. We got one that was on sale at babies-r-us for his.
  • We have 2 of the same
  • We have two...we got the Britax Marathon at our shower and that's our main seat...I got a Nextfit on that crazy sale a few months ago, so that's what we use in DHs car and my parents car occasionally
  • We are still using the infant seat, but she is about to grow out of it.  We have one convertible but plan to get another one of the same.  I am getting a new car in a few weeks.  I am not sure a convertible would even fit in the small car I have now.

  • We'll get 2. We're getting a Diono Radian for my car and something less expensive for his car (probably another Safety1st) since 99.9% of time in the car is in my car.

I have two - one in my vehicle and one for my mom since she keeps DS for me when I am at work.

We have three... My car, DH's car, and one in my moms van (she does daycare). We got two for showers so we only had to stomach the cost of the third. I'm lazy and don't want to move one around!

  • We have 2 NextFits in each of our cars. One of us normally does drop off and the other does pickup from daycare, so taking the seat in and out seemed like such a hassle.

  • We have for DS a nice one in my car and a cheaper in DHs. Honestly. I like the cheaper one. When I buy new ones for Skye I will prob get the same kind that is in DHs car.

  • We don't have one yet, but we're planning on getting one first for my car, and a bit later a cheaper one for DHs car. He's usually in my car.

This is pretty much our arrangement, too. I'd love to be able to get away with just one, but it doesn't seem practical.

  • We just have the one convertible for now, he's still in the infant seat anyways. We plan to get another one but budget is a little tight right now, keeping an eye out for sales! It would just be a pain to only have the one I would think, especially since LO probably rides almost as much in DHs truck as my car.

We have two. A nice one which she primarily uses, and then a cheapo one as back up that I got off amazon for the second car. I wouldn't buy a used one though. Too risky.

This. Exactly. I have the comfier one in my truck and DH has the cheaper one in his car for quick trips. Way too lazy to switch back and forth.

  • We have a bunch it feels like. One for my car. One for DH's. One for the ILs. One for my parents. Then we had one for the old sitter.

In that mix (for DD1), we had three Cosco Sceneras and 1 Graco MyRide that we bought. Then my parents bought a MyRide for their car.

We have since given one Scenera away. One is at the ILs. The other Scenera is a back up for DH's car but DD1 has outgrown it, so it will become DD2's back up. We have a Nautillus that DD1 can use in his car if necessary (which puts her ff even though she is still rf in my car).

We bought a Graco MySize for DD2 in my car. At the moment, the ILs and my parents don't have any other back up seats for the girls. Not sure if we will get more or just transfer when needed. It hasn't been a problem as DD2 is with me 99% of the time since she's my boob addict. Lol
  • We have one for each kid in each car...4 total. Too much of a hassle to switch out and we alternate daycare pick ups and drop offs. I definitely wouldn't recommend buying a used seat. You never know the history and if it has been in an accident. In some states you can get fined for selling a used seat. All seats have to pass the same safety standards so even the cheaper seats are safe options. Cosco scenera is a cheaper seat that is recommended a lot.
  • DH's car is pretty much just a car he drives to work.  When he is on his 3 days off, we usually are always in my vehicle so we don't really need an extra.  That being said, my cousin has one from her child that is still good and has never been in an accident that we will be borrowing to put in DH's car for the very rare times LO travels in that vehicle.  If DH has the kids and I have something else to do, we usually just switch vehicles since mine is bigger anyway.

  • We actually bought four. One for mine and DH's vehicle and one for my parents and his mom's vehicle. They were about $140 each. We decided it was easier to have them installed and left in each vehicle. All the same brand just different colors.

  • We only have one right now although we are still using the infant seat.  We will put it (a nextfit) in my car and if we need to switch it to H's we will.  Otherwise we will get him a cheaper seat.

We currently have three for two kiddos. DD has the NextFit and DS is still in his infant carrier in my car. We have a Combi Coccoro installed in DH's truck for DS. He'll be moving into that full time when he outgrows the carrier. The NextFit is so easy to install that I just move it to whichever car we're using that day. Not sure what we'll do when DS is in the Coccoro. For now just switch but it's a little more time consuming to install so we may get him a new seat before he outgrows the Coccoro rear facing.

ETA -- we bought the Coccoro for DD when she outgrew the infant carrier. Now that she has outgrown it rear facing she has the NextFit which will take her to four rear facing. It makes a great travel seat for airplane rides, too :)

  • My peanut is still in the infant seat. But once she is ready to move into the convertible, we'll have to get 2. I do day care drop off and my DH does pick up. We'll probably get a cheaper one for his car though because she will only ride in it for about 1.5 miles each day and maybe an occasional shirt trip if DH has to take her somewhere without me and my sweet azz minivan.

DD2 is in the infant seat and we have a base in each car. We have a convertible seat in each car for DD1. We switch cars multiple times a day. No way we'd keep transferring car seats.

  • 1 convertible car seat. Whomever has the baby that day gets the car with the car seat. When he grows out of the infant seat, though (which may be fairly soon), we will need to get one for my mom's car.

  • 2 Nextfits, although we are still using the infant seats.  I drop off in the morning and pick up 3x a week and DH picks up 2x a week.  So there is no way we could have 1 seat.

  • We have two convertable seats. The graco my ride /sizeforme 70. I love them. Got them on sale for $145 or so each. One stays in my car, the other is in the truck that FI/Il's use. My mil takes A shopping with her all the time so its just better to have one dedicated to that vehicle.

Currently we have 1. The Clek Foonf. It's in my car which is what we use as the family mobile. When I'm back to work we will likely get another for DH truck just to make it easier for picking up DS. Might need a different car seat for DH truck just because the Foonf is so large. Will cross that bridge when we get there.
  • We debated the one vehicle vs two but bit the bullet and got all 4-two for mine and two for his. I look at it as an investment since it was not cheap. Thankfully a sale, and 0% financing helped out. We ended up with the Britax Advocate.
