Trying to Get Pregnant

Prenatals and Nausea

I am currently taking the gummy prenatals.. and they make me want to vomit every time.
I have tried taking them before a meal and after. Still have nausea. Any pointers? Should I avoid the gummies? I heard they were easier to stomach.
I have always been pretty sensitive to vitamins so I guess I am not too surprised here.

Gummy's are as easy on the stomach as they get, the pills are far worse. Target has some prenatal Gummy's that are sugar coated- kind of like sour patch kids they are pretty good.

I'm taking Rainbow Light PNVs and I've had a bit of nausea too. I've been taking mine after lunch bc I don't eat a huge breakfast. This way, I have two meals on my stomach. I personally don't like taking vitamins at night bc of the B12, which gives you energy.
  • @phnjenna - I think I am the only person that hates the sugar coating!! It's waaayyyy too sweet and makes it worse. ick

I take the gummies and don't experience any nausea. I think someone said that it's the iron that makes things difficult...
  • @bibliothecary -- Oh! No I haven't. I assume they can be found online? Do you have a preferred one?

  • I had horrible morning sickness with DD and couldn't handle any of the prenatals. I ended up sticking with my usual daily multi and added a folic acid. I don't know why but that was much easier for me.

This is me. If your vitamin has iron in it, try one without iron and take a slow release iron supplement like Slow Fe. You can also try a chewable children's vitamin. Just make sure your getting the right dosage. It should have folic acid in it and DHA. There are liquid prenatals like pp said.

  • @penguinmg - I have ALWAYS wanted to use that brand. Do you use any of their other products?  I may just try them out ;)

@katzkiss - thanks for the info... I thought about the kids vitamins but wondered how many I would have to take to make it equal an adult pnv

  • @autumngrace‌ I use many if the honest company products and love them, plus they are at Target now too! My favorite products are the stain remover spray, floor wash spray and their oxi-stain tablets for laundry. I haven't tried their PNV's but want to.

I'm not sure. I guess you would just have to compare the labels. If you get a Flinstones type vitamin, you can crush them up and mix them in something as well. They might not have iron in them though for safety reasons. Kids like them like candy.

  • I tried the cheaper PNV (One-A-Day...) and they made me nauseous every time. I switched to GNC Prenatals and I haven't had a problem since. I think they're around 20$ for a one-month supply.

  • I take rainbow light and have never had a problem with them, no matter when I take them. I always recommend them.

  • I used this technique for fish-burps after a PNV, but it should work equally well for nausea.  Just take them before bed.  That way any side effects happen while you're sleeping, and theoretically you'll sleep through them.

  • Ok I will take them at bedtime tonight and see what happens.
I might switch to the liquid form too.
I would get the honest company ones but it's so hard to pay $40 for a bottle... I just can't.
