Traveling with a 4 month old

So I am flying with my 4 month old in a month and I'm really nervous!! Any suggestions?? The total travel time is about 6 hours each way and I plan on wearing my carrier and nursing on the plane. TIA

Just keep it simple, mama. My LO was a dream to travel with at that age (she had 12 flights by 5m). I just wore her and nursed when she wanted to nurse. I tried to time things for takeoff and landing (sucking can help their little ears). The white noise made her pass out almost every time. She only had one bad flight the whole time, and people around me were very understanding. Even if they weren't, I kept telling myself they'd never see me again. Keep up your water.
All of this. And if LO gets fussy the flight attendants may let you hang out in the back of the plane/in the food and drink area. (bulkhead? brain fart on the word for it). we did that when LO was 2 or 3 months, and just the act of getting up and walking/swaying helped quiet her down.

Also, if you're feeling modest/uptight about nursing in public, you'll quickly learn that people are paying a lot less attention than you think they are!

  • Thanks for the good advice. Im traveling with my 3 mo on Sunday. I think me staying calm will be the biggest hurdle.
  • Thanks for the great advice! I agree that I will just need to stay calm!! So another question, we will be staying with my sister who has teenagers so she doesn't have a crib or pack n play. I don't feel comfortable co sleeping (I have nightmares about rolling over on her almost nightly) so any ideas as to where she can sleep???
  • She actually just started rolling over this week.
  • This is a great post on flying with kids.  It is written by a Child Passenger Safety Technician.

  • 4 mo is a great age to travel with, IMO. Nurse on take off and landing if possible. Both my girls were usually awake through getting to airport and ready for nap. At that age my girls generally slept thru most flights (though we never did longer than a 2 hr flight--that was furthest we needed to fly).

Have sister borrow a PNP. We did that when visiting my inlaws. They had friends with a baby who have two. Grandparents who have one for when grandchild visits would also be able to lend one.
