Cloth Diapering

Laundry Situation

edited June 2014 in Cloth Diapering
Sorry, this is going to be a novel, but I could use your help.

MH tried to help by running diaper laundry today. He ran everything on the "normal" cycle (warm wash, single cold rinse). No pre-rinse.

I do laundry every day, so I thought "one wash, no big deal. I'll run an extra cycle in the morning."

Well, R had a massive poo when we were out at dinner. She took the diaper off herself and made a total mess of her dress, the ground, etc.

So again, DH ran the diapers in the wash while I was putting R to bed. Same thing again: No pre rinse, "normal" cycle. I noticed it when it was already washing/suds. I put some bleach in the dispenser, but not sure that's enough.

Should I run everything through a regular CD cycle in the morning? More bleach? Or just extra hot washes with no detergent?

Ugh, I haven't even said anything to hubby b/c I know he was just trying to help. He just never does diaper laundry. :-/

So WWYD?

Re: Laundry Situation

  • I would rehash if there was poop in there.

  • I wrote out the diaper wash routine and posted it by the washer so anyone could reference it when needed. That helped dh learn what I did. But, I would treat the ones that were washed incorrectly as if not washed at all.

  • Agree. I would just rewash everything. I understand about not saying anything to DH yet...MH tends to throw a dryer sheet in with diapers occasionally, but since he's actually doing laundry, I don't always correct him, and I figure every once in a while can't hurt too much.

  • thanks all. I'll rewash evening in the morning again. I like the idea of posting the cloth routine for everyone to see. I've definitely mentioned the pre-wash to him before, bit obviously that didn't stick with him.

I just didn't want to say anything yesterday b/c he had already treated me to a mani/pedi to give me a break from the girls, and I know he was just trying to help. :-)

  • We have printed diaper laundry instructions taped above the washer.
That way DH or anyone else can run them through if they want.
  • Oh.my.gosh. He did it again. I was running the load this morning and wanted to check the amount of suds, so I paused the cycle. The washer takes a long time to unlock, so I walked away for a minute.

Then I hear hubby opening it up, so I called over to him and said it was already running and already had soap in it. He proceeded to add more detergent and restart the cycle, adding two more diapers from this morning.

So now I'm going to have to run a hot wash again to make sure all the soap is out. I just...I don't even know what to say at this point. ~X(

  • Lol...at this point FI isn't comfortable washing diapers. He doesn't want to ruin them...maybe you should let him know that you appreciate his willingness to help bit let you wash the diapers while he takes care of the regular laundry.

    ...sometimes they just don't understand...

  • I could swear that sometimes people screw stuff up so they can get out of ever having to do it.
