Mirena 1st period

I had mirena placed on 5/20. A few days later I started my first postpartum period. Since then, it hasn't stopped for 4 straight weeks. I know this is normal, but it is still quite aggravating, and I'd love to hear that other women have actually experienced this and still have had a positive experience with Mirena. My doctor told me that it should probably work itself out in the next month or so.

OMG awful. I had mine put in 6/3 and have been spotting and now bleeding since. Glad to know not to worry!

The first time I got mirena I never had a period for two and a half years. This time I had one for a few weeks but I think it's finally over. I haven't had any bleeding for about a week now.

Had mine put in on 6/4, started spotting a few days later... Still having dark brown spotting. No cramps or any other period symptoms tho?

Glad to see this. I had mine put in about 7 weeks postpartum and I spotted for a few days, then started my period a few days after that. I'm 9.5 weeks postpartum now and am still bleeding. It's annoying cause I didn't even have periods before I got pregnant and now I have a monster one.

Got my Mirena 5/14 had my one month appt to check it on 6/12.. I was still bleeding. It finally stopped a few days after that.

I had mine put in a few weeks ago, and haven't had any spotting, and only very mild cramping. My doctor said that you should LOVE your Mirena....and if after 6-8 weeks I didn't LOVE it, then to get it taken out and try something else. Some women respond better to it than others, and if you're one of those people who just doesn't respond well to it, you should know pretty quickly.

Has anyone else's doctor said they won't put mirena in until at least 12 weeks post partum? I told my doctor that is the birth control I want at my 6 week appt and she put me on the pill until 12 weeks?

My midwife put mine in at 6 weeks PP. The little booklette about Mirena says that it can be put in as early as 6 weeks.
The bleeding seemed like it would never stop but finally after 4 weeks it seems to be gone! I am so excited. The nurse said that you could spot for 6 weeks straight and that is why they check on mine at 6 weeks PP.

My midwife won't insert until 10 weeks or later. I'm having mine fine this week at 12 weeks. Hopefully, I will have success. I haven't had a period yet.

My doctor wouldn't place the Mirena until 8 wks. Unfortunately at 8 wks they couldn't get it in and now I'm stuck on the mini pill until I decide what I want to do. Boo!

I had mine placed on May 30 and today is the first day with no bleeding so far. It's definitely very light, but always there. I'm hoping the fact that it's been all day without any bleeding means Im getting a break for a while. They told me to pretty much expect to bleed almost daily for 3-6 months but then possibly go the rest of the 5 years with no period at all. We shall see.

I've had it for a couple weeks and I'm still bleeding but not very much. I think it'll go away before long. I have been having some slight cramping the last couple days. Hoping to be one of the no period ones! Lol guess we will see. I'm scheduled to start on July 4th... While we are camping...

Just curious how many of you are breast feeding? I am planning to get the mirena again but last time when I had it I was done breast feeding. I had a great experince with it the first time, no period for 3 years, yippee! My dr says it is perfectly safe for breast feeding but I am still a little worried. I am 7 weeks pp.

Haven't noticed any drop in supply. I don't think they would recommend it if it was known to do that.

They are rather pricy, so a lot of offices don't keep them stocked. Once I told my OB I wanted one she wrote the script and said it would be about 8w until it arrived.

I'm not on mirena but I got the depo shot and I'm the same way! Been bleeding for 2 weeks now and it's awful! Called dr today and said to wait 2 more weeks! I EBF and didn't want to have a period at all!

I had mine placed at 8 week pp (4/29) and bled pretty consistently until around 2 weeks ago. Now I go 5 or 6 days, then have a day of random bleeding. I don't know what to make of it but it did get a little better at least.
