I go 1x a week. Miralax daily, colase and prune juice, walking ... All 4 pregnancy safe.

I wouldn't try them all at once and if you start feeling flu like call your doctor whether you have tried any of these or not. It can mean your are impacted which happens :(

  • Are you taking Colace? If not, I highly recommend that you start ASAP, so that when you do poop it will be easier. :(

I became severely constipated when I was pregnant with DS and was on a trip, not paying attention to the fact that I hadn't pooped in a week. I got really sick, in lots of pain, and ended up requiring an enema at home and a visit to the doc the next day. It was a very uncomfortable and unpleasant experience that I don't wish upon anyone.

Take some colace, call your doc. Hope you get some relief soon!

  • Thanks ladies! I called the dr and they gave all the recommendations mentioned. I will be getting colace tomorrow morning!

  • Try going for a long walk (2-3 miles) and if you can, include a few jogging spurts (30-60 seconds each every few minutes). A few weeks ago I got sick and didn't work out for 4 days and I didn't poop those 4 days but as soon as I went for a walk, it was all taken care of. Walking can really make all the difference in getting your bowels moving.

  • Constipation sucks!  Colace helps some for me and I've never had constipation with pregnancy before.  Ugh.  I limit cheese, even though I love it and crave it.  Hope things get worked out soon (lol)!

I have gastrophoresis. I know miralax is safe if not used long term... Meaning every day for years. It doesn't give you diarrhea just easier to go

But obviously call them. I put it in my morning coffee, on full cap
  • Still no luck :( miralax yesterday, colace today, coffee and high fiber foods, milk of magnesium before bed tonight. I really hope something happens or I have to call the dr again tomorrow. This is freaking crazy!

  • Oh man, I feel for you.

Other ladies have already given most of the advice I know, but one other thing that might help is some gentle stretching. There are some yoga poses that are known to help your GI system move. I'm not an expert (plus some twisting poses aren't advised when pregnant) so I won't try to describe them, but it might be worth googling.

Also, I've had some butt troubles in the past (will spare you the details), and found that a warm bath or heating pad on your butt can help relax those muscles if they're spasming/overly tense. And from what I've read, for long-term avoidance of constipation and hard stools, regular fiber and really good hydration are what you need, even more so than stool softeners. Obviously that won't help you right now, but just to keep in mind for later.

    It'll happen! Feel better.
