Hi everyone, my little girl was breech until 37 weeks so our doctor sent us for a routine ultrasound of breech babies. The ultrasound came back to show severe hip dysplasia. I would never have known...but now I see that her fat rolls don't line up which is apparently a sign. Anyway...now we are being referred to a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon. I'm glad we use a beco carrier which is good for hips (bjorn type carriers make it worse) but am sad that we have been swaddling since she was born (which also can make it worse). She will start with a harness that holds her legs at a 90 degree angle and I'm hoping this will solve it and she won't need surgery. I know we had other breech babies on the board.....has anyone else received The same results from their ultrasounds? Anyone know anyone with this or have any experience?
Re: Hip Dysplasia
I hope your results turn out great! Our doctors have said all along that Lilah's hips look great so I really was not prepared for this diagnosis.
Thank you! That is great advice. I bought a book "parents guide to hip dysplasia" and copied down all of the suggested questions to ask the ortho. I also joined a hip dysplasia forum on baby centre that has helped. The notebook is a great idea for our appointments. Especially to keep things straight for insurance purposes.
Once she turns 6 months we will go for a follow up x-ray to make sure everything remained where it should be. I'm knocking on wood.
The harness is easy to take on and off. The one thing you'll have to get used to is changing your LO's diaper in it. It's no big deal - you just have to weave it through a little.
I hope the best for you and your LO!
The Facebook group I link to is a great place to ask questions, etc.

Thank you so much. Your blog was very informative! I also saw that you are in Canada as well...I am in calgary so it was great to see a Canadian perceptive on working with our health care system (everything I have read has been from the United States)
