NBR - what to do in San Francisco area?

I'm joining DH for a last minute business trip and we'll have most of 3 days to spend in the San Francisco area. Any advice on what to see, or especially what/where to eat? We're deprived foodies, with DD's age we rarely eat out so we're super excited to dine alone

There are so many things to do. You could do a guided tour to Alcatraz, or just around SF itself. You can also visit Bakers Beach, Palace of Fine Arts, or Union Square. Recommended restaurants: Gary Danko is fab.

I don't know how great the search function is, but I posted this at the end of may and got some great advice!

We did Muir Woods, the zoo, Fisherman's Wharf, and we stayed in Burlingame, so we walked around there a lot (I ran a race while we were out there). We had some fantastic food, but I can't remember a lot of the names of the places. One was on the wharf--crab rolls to die for. Stacks was great for pancakes, and a few places in Burlingame were fantastic. But, dunno where you'll be, so that might not be helpful.

Note, if you want to do Alcatraz, book NOW. They are steadily booked far in advance, so we didn't get to do that.

I also vote for Alcatraz. It is such an interesting tour. Fisherman's Wharf and even the aquarium there are pretty fun. They have some good restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf. You can also do a ride on a trolley which is pretty fun to go around and see the streets of SF. There's Chinatown too.

Also every Sunday they have something thing called Off the Grid , in Presidio area (near gold gate ) Google it take a blanket and everyone picnics there's tons of food and deserts it's and just nice to hang out and relax

If you go to this, you will want to get food at the Chairman. Order the Coke Braised Pork sandwich.

If you go to the Wharf, you'll want to have dinner (upstairs) at Alioto's. It can be pricey, but it's great, has a good atmosphere, and has some awesome history.

For something truly unique, I would recommend going to Asia SF. It's dinner and a show! It's basically a drag show, but these women make me feel like less of a woman. Also, the food is spectacular. You need to make a reservation asap.

Fog Harbor Fish House. That's the place at the Wharf we ate at. It was great.

Rocco's and Elephant Bar in Burlingame.

Stacks (I don't remember where we were that day).

And I can't remember the place with the great views in Burlingame we ate at for our anniversary, but it was great--it was in a hotel along the way.

Not overly helpful. I just pulled up our bank statement to look for names.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations! We still need to book a hotel, but we'll get on it tonight along with looking up food

We'll be there next week, I wasn't kidding about last minute! DH had meetings there last week and was invited back.

Any recs on which area to stay in? We will have to rent a car, and he has to be in downtown SF one day, Silicon Valley one day, and Lafayette another day. He has stayed in Burlingame once and downtown once, hotels are just slim so close this time around!

His family is Thai, so we've no shortage on yummy Thai food

Add in my reflux and I think we'll be mostly seafood centered. And for obvious reasons.. crab, butter and sourdough is a balanced pg diet, right?

And the trolley makes me smile

I'll probably also be that dork going to the Full House hill, I freaking loved that show as a kid.

I would say stay at the W downtown SF but I also like the Clift hotel. Limon is the best Peruvian restaurant I've ever been to and Ozumo is one of the best Japenese restos! Beach Chalet has great food and amazing view of the ocean! If you have issues with hotels in downtown SF you can also check hotels by the airport as well as some nice ones in the Oyster Point area...I think the one I stayed in was Oyster Point Inn. I also highly recommend going to Sausalito to eat and walk around/shop. And I know everyone said Aliotos but I really like Scomas.

::::Lurker:::: Il Borgo, 500 Fell Street is inexpensive and seriously some of the best authentic Italian food I've ever eaten. They are moderately priced and not usually busy. The pesto or gorgonzola gnocchi are described by one of my friends as "pillows of delight"! Also my 100% Italian mother is still trying to figure out how to make their lasagnetta it is so good. Your hubby and baby will not be sorry you ate there! Another really authentic italian food is Franchino at 347 Columbus Ave. He and his wife run it and tgeir four daughters are waitresses with their hubby's as chefs. A total family affair sometimes he'll dim the lights and sign opera to everyone! I've been going there since college and in 20 years haven't had a bad meal/experience. Maykadeh at 470 Green Street is amazing Persian food. They also have a valet so parking isn't too bad. The Maykadeh Kabob (barg) is so good! If you like Burmease food Burma Superstar at 309 Clement St is also amazing. The tea leaf salad and the rainbow salad are amaze balls. Parking stinks on Clement and there is usually always a wait there so be prepared. Also a super awesome place to check out is Foreign Cinema at 2534 Mission Street, again parking is a PITA, but in terms of ambiance this place is amazing. They have an outdoor patio and they show movies alongside the side of the building. They put on a great brunch with brown sugar coated bacon! One of the places I always take my out of town visitors is Twin Peaks (but only if it's clear) the best views of the city. Lumbard Street is fun to drive down if you have a rental. If the Giants are in town it's always fun and some of their food at the ball park is out of this world! The garlic fries and crab sandwich on toasted sourdough is crazy good for ball park food. SF is one of my all time favorite cities and I love to eat. Sorry for poor formatting/misspelled words, I'm on my tablet. (Also I've been interrupted a million times by my girls!) ::::lurker out::::

We will actually be there next week, too. The last time we were there we did pretty good by trusting Yelp. I read reviews before going anywhere. I especially loved SF's MOMA.
