October 2014 Moms

Twin mom intro!

Hi, ladies! I typically post on PAIF and sometimes the Multiples board, but I wanted to intro here too. DH and I have been married for 11 years, and after 3 years of 4 IUIs, 2 IVFs, and one frozen transfer, I am 24 weeks and 1 day with boy/girl twins! I think I've been in denial that we might actually bring babies home until now.. and as a result, I really haven't done much of anything baby-related. I bought some sheets for their (currently non-existent) cribs online, but that's pretty much it. I'm on modified rest due to cervical issues- I'm allowed to stand for up to 2 hours a day but otherwise I have to sit or lie down- so I should have plenty of time to participate on here! I'm excited to get to know all of you!

  • Aurora1181 I don't post much here anymore but I thought I would say hello. I am a couple days behind you with twin boys (24 weeks on Wednesday) and also on modified bed rest due to cervical issues. No fun at all, especially with a toddler. Have they done anything else or just put you on the rest? Will this be your situation for the duration?

Hey!! Congrats on your twins! :) I can't imagine being on rest with a toddler- how is that working out for you? As for other stuff, I'm on 200mg progesterone suppositories daily.. and yeah, it looks like this will be the situation for the duration. What about you?

I had some funneling, so they prescribed the rest and progesterone. I am seeing an MFM and my OB- one each week. So Monday is the MFM, next Monday the OB, repeat, etc. They're keeping a close watch but each week I get so nervous that I'm going to be put on actual bedrest! Thankfully I'm a teacher and it's summer break. We start back July 28th (crazy, I know) so I don't know what's going to happen then.. I'm assuming I'm not going back, but who knows, maybe my cervix will get better? Always nice to "meet" another twin mom- especially one around the same place!!

  • Twin mom here too! 24 weeks with B/G. So far I've been lucky and not put on any restrictions, but I'm losing energy every day that passes it seems. It's gonna be a looooong Summer! I have a 4.5 yr old dd with tons of energy, so I feel bad that I'm such a lame mommy now  :(

Congrats to you as well! Our situations seem to be extremely similar. I had funneling as well, so I am currently on progesterone suppositories daily as well and moderate bed rest. Right now I am basically on house arrest except for my weekly MFM appointments. Couch and bed with one light activity daily (shower, etc) I have an OB appointment on Monday and I am going to request that they do the FFN test, if anything for peace of mind. Have you had that yet? I am scheduled to get my steroid shots this week. Scary stuff!

Bed rest with a little one at home as brutal. I am a stay at home mom with no family around. We were very active before this and she is not thrilled about this whole thing. She is only 2 1/2 so she does not really understand. We are trying out best with help from others. I just hope it does not resort to hospital bed rest but of course I am ready to do whatever it takes for the safety of the twins.

  • Hello and congrats on your twins. I am a bit behind you guys. I will be 21 weeks on Sunday and am hoping I do not have to be on bedrest during this pregnancy. It has to be really frustrating.

@Rachellily Hats off to you for managing your toddler and bed rest! I do not know how you manage that and it is one of my biggest fears during this pregnancy.

Wow! Your post makes me very grateful for my measly two hours of activity each day. Hang in there- you are doing great.

What is the FFN test? And why did they recommend the steroid shots already? Should I be asking for this too? I see my MFM on Monday. I'll be thinking about both of us on Monday!!

My cervix has pretty much consistently measured around 3.0 with a little more or less sometimes, but it was funneling down to 2.5 which led to the modified rest and progesterone. What were/are your measurements? I get sooooo nervous before every appointment.. wondering what my cervix is going to do this time..

  • Hello and welcome!
  • Hello! I hang around PAIF too. Welcome to the October board I just intro'd here not long ago.
Me: 33 - PCOS & Hypothyroidism DH: 35 - SA is good Married since 2010 (together since 2006) TTC since June 2009 (we knew we would have issues and wanted family right away after we got married). No pregnancies yet. May 2013 - started first round of Chlomid & ovidrel cycle.
  • Welcome!  I'm yet to introduce myself (new here) but also expecting twins.  Boy/girl twins due October 22nd but hoping to make it til October 8th, 38 weeks, per my MFM recommendation.  Hi to all the other mamas and twin mamas here!  I had cramping and heavy bleeding earlier (12-14 weeks) and was in the hospital a while, due to placenta previa.  Scary but babies are great and bleeding, thankfully, has stopped.  Phew.  No official bedrest but modified bedrest here.  If I go out, I can do one errand a day and after that I get super crampy and exhausted.

Oh, also an older mama.  Turning 40 in February.  Much different than being pregnant in my 30's!

persephonerose Thank you! I don't know how we have gotten through the past couple weeks myself. Each and every day feels like an eternity. But each day without going into labor feels like an accomplishment as well.

Aurora1181 The FFN test is a swab test that can gives results if you are expected to go into labor I think the next week? It is not 100% but it is pretty accurate! It looks like my cervix is measuring shorter than yours at 2, so that may be why they are going ahead with the steroids. I hope you stay at 3 and above! That sounds very encouraging.
