books for first time dad's to be.

We went to our hospital tour today and the way my DH was talking and asking questions makes me feel like he needs to read something! Did anyone's SO actually read a parenting \having a baby book. Suggestions on something on the shorter side that a guy would actually read? Lol! He is going to be a great dad but it's time he read up a little bit!

  • One of dh's fraternity bros got him this.

Does you dh like to read? I would send him articles from this site that were relevant. Mine wouldn't so just things I think he should know I would send him.

  • DH took a Dad Day course through our hospital, and the two recommended titles were:

The Expectant Father and The Book of Dads

  • My husband and I both read Dr Bradley's Husband Coached Childbirth. I feel like he learned a lot about the actual birth and first couple days. We also have 12 nieces and nephews so he has a lot of experience around little ones. He also read Dad is Fat, which is written by some comedian, I just can't remember which one. He thought it was funny, not sure how much he actually learned from it...
  • Thanks everyone! He likes to read but only things that interest him. A little little humor thrown in the mix will really help get him to pick up one of those books!
  • SO's friend passed this book on to him:

He's not a big reader but I think he enjoyed the humor in it. I flipped through it and it was pretty informative while at the same time humorous!

  • I got my hubby "Dads Guide to Pregnancy for Dummies" and he really liked it. It not only covers what to expect when your wife/fiance/girlfriend is pregnant but then touches on the basics for newborn care. He literally didn't put it down for 3 days and read the entire thing. He seemed to enjoy it and took some good info from it.

  • Dad's Expecting Too is a really good one. I actually found it helpful for me and it has a lot of great tips that guys will really understand. It even has a section on trying to have sex with your pregnant wife and why that might not happen which I'm sure some of you ladies can appreciate. One of my favorite parts was when it talk about the "accidental asshole" which is when the dad says or does something that they might not really think of being a dick move but why the mom might think so and that they just have to understand that things are a bit more sensitive during pregnancy. Overall its a great book to help the dad's understand what the mom's are going through.

  • My SIL bought the Baby a Owners Mamual for H. He loves it. I hear him laughing and he shares the funny bits. To me, it almost seems like it's written as if it's a stereo manual style but great baby care info.
