It's hard being around SN kids

DS2 joined a parent child social group last month that meets once a week. In some ways, it's the best thing ever. It's the most judgement-free area I've ever been in. A kid will seem so "normal" and then he/she will do something and you realize, "ah, that's why he's here."

But it is hard to watch all these kids sometimes. Some of them are very low functioning, and you can see the parents are just so overwhelmed. I don't know how sped teachers do it.

I feel really similarly and then immediately feel guilty because I don't want to be pitied and I bet they feel similarly. I enjoy similar groups and have made friendships but I don't feel like I belong. Dd is mild (if she scored a single point lower on the ADOS she wouldn't have been labeled) so I feel like she's not like other autistic kids but is nowhere near nt. Sigh.
