Trying to Get Pregnant

No to a free trip?

So I went over for dinner to my parents house tonight since my DH was working a late shift tonight.  I get there and my mother informs me that I "need to figure our my work schedule and my DHs for January to go on a cruise!"  Apparently she found a really good deal and wants to take DH and I, my brother and SIL, my aunt and uncle and my parents all on a cruise.  I have never been on a cruise!  It would not be free but she would give each couple a good chunk towards it.

Ok that all sounds great and I really need a vacation but we are TTC and not telling anyone.  January is 7 months away.....
What do you all suggest I do?  Find a way to decline?  Plan on going and maybe be pregnant then?  (seasickness with a side of morning sickness..... SIGH)

Re: No to a free trip?

  • Go on the trip! Worst that happens is you might have a great reason to cancel. (Most cruise lines won't let you on anyway after a certain point in pregnancy)

If you want to go I would plan on going but buy trip insurance.  Cruise lines won't let you on after 24 weeks.  But I wouldn't live like you are pregnant until you are.
Depends on the cruise line. Some let you in until 30 weeks. I would so go, pregnant or not. No better place to have morning sickness than in a warm place in Jan!

I love cruises! My family goes on them often. The ships are very large and are less prone to swaying, therefore less sea sickness. Go!

  • I'd go for it.  You may end up only being a few weeks/months along and being totally fine to enjoy the hell out of that cruise.  But if you can get the trip insurance, its probably worth it for you to not stress over it in the meantime.

I had no idea about the limit and it seems like each cruise company has different week restrictions so I will have to find out what cruise company she is looking at.  Thanks for the input ladies!!!

So posting shit that is completely irrelevant to the conversation is your thing. Got it.

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Good grief, just sharing what I would do in that situation.

But that has nothing to do with the OP's, she never said she was concerned or not wanting to take the trip with family.. She was talking about TTC & Pg.   I would travel with certain family, but it's not part of this post..

    My apologies.

  • Totally plan on going! Best case scenario is you're 7 months pregnant and you'll take some ginger to help with the sickness and you'll have a LOT of fun and relaxation(when you'll really need it at that far along). :-)
  • I would totally go! Worst case senario is you have to cancel because your past the 24 week limit (and seriously, would that be bad?). Other than that your either pregnant or not on the trip. There are tons of stuff out there for seasickness that are safe for pregnancy. Ginger suckers are good. Have fun and good luck TTC!!

You can't go on a cruise when you are 7 months pregnant.

Oooh sorry, my bad. Maybe plan on it and do what everyone else says about the insurance thing? They know more than me, I know little to nothing about cruises.
Off topic @DarcyHermione‌ I LOVE your name, two of my all-time favorite characters. :-)

  • We are in the same boat. Pun intended... FIL keeps pushing for Feb but if we tell him to buy travel insurance he will be suspicious and we are keeping quiet on TTC.

  • I would sign up for the cruise.  TTC is a mystery and you never really know when it's going to happen.  Yes, you could be pregnant 7 months then, or you might not be pregnant yet at that point.  I'm sure there are plenty of ways around all of the issues that could arrive.  Good luck.
  • I too am in a similar boat (no pun intended). My dad is pushing us all to plan our next big family vacation.... We take one every couple years to somewhere awesome. I for sure don't want to miss out, but hope to be pregnant by then! (It'd be sometime next year.) I'm hoping that by the time we all agree on when/where to go, I'll either be pregnant and can plan around it, or I'll just put off buying tickets etc until 6 months before the trip, and get trip insurance wherever I can. Good luck!

  • I've done seven cruises, none pregnant, but for a first timer make sure you do a Carribean cruise to ensure mild waters!! Your best bet would be to cruise between twelve and twenty eight weeks. DEFINITELY do trip insurance because without it even if They choose not to let you cruise because of the pregnancy if you don't have the trip insurance it's non refundable!! They are super strict!

  • Go on the trip-money is money. I don't believe that you getting pregnant and not physically being able to travel is going to upset your mother who is funding the majority of this.

Thank you all for your input.  The good news is that she is still thinking about the cruise but is looking at other deals so not needing to know in the next 2 days like she originally was asking as far as commitment to the trip.  This means that it will hopefully take her a month or two to make a decision on which trip to take and we will be past the mark that the 24 week rule applies even if I got pregnant this cycle  (I may be looking online for more deals to change her mind a bunch!!!)!

I am totally getting trip insurance, just in case though!  Thanks again I learned a lot about cruises from you all!  I think that a cruise in January to get away from Wisconsin's winter will be great even if we are not PG yet!

Personally, I wouldn't go if it was past the viability stage so I would do some research on insurance and refunds. Put some money aside so you can reimburse your in laws if you can't go. If you do decide you want to go, make sure your OB would write a letter allowing you to go. Many cruise lines will require this, and if he/ she won't, it's a moot point. If it was before my viability date, I would go in a heart beat. Here's a website that breaks down the policies for each line. https://www.vacationstogo.com/payments.cfm

  • Check the policy on different cruise lines too... I know Carnival is strict at not allowing women past 20 weeks. Royal is 26 I think.
