Fat rolls

(Not mine, the baby's :) )

My daughter has some awesome neck and leg rolls but she is getting some red sores in between and sometimes there is white crap in there too that stinks. I bathe her every other day and a couple times a day I get into the rolls and gently wipe out anything if it's there and have also started putting aquaphor in the rolls. Lastly I am being sure to get in between after baths to dry. They look so sore and aren't going away! Anything else I can do? I haven't called the pedi yet for recommendations. Anyone have advice of other things that help?

Love fat babies but not this!

Re: Fat rolls

  • We get the same. The neck is the worst.

I will wipe out his inner thigh ones daily with a wet wipe and he's bathed every other day.

  • If it doesn't get better, it could be a yeast infection. Make sure you wash and thoroughly dry the rolls several times a day. Try a vinegar water rinse for washing (1T vinegar to 1 cup water) to help kill any nasties living in the warm, moist areas.
  • Perhaps put a little lotrimin cream on red areas? Sounds like yeast. My lo gets the smelly white gunk in his rolls too!
  • We don't have sores but definitely get stinky stuff in her neck rolls and armpits. I think a lot of it is old milk as she's a messy eater still. That stuff stinks!
  • The neck rolls are the worst. We didn't even realize until he started getting really chubby at about 3 weeks. We looked and there was link and all sorts of crap in there. Oops. Now our trouble is when milk runs down his chin and into the rolls. No sores here but I wonder is diaper rash ointment would help. Same kind of issue, irritation from moisture

I second lotrimin for yeast. Worked wonders for DD.

  • Thanks! Duh, I didn't even think about yeast.

  • No rash but I wipe it out regularly and after baths let him hang out naked for a little bit to get some air. Being wrapped up all the time can't be helping that situation.
  • Time heals all. We call it cheese in this house. It's a normal newborn thing that ears up when they start to have more active time.

  • Read the responses. In my non-medical totally based on my own experience opinion it's not yeast. Just newborn cheese. Keep cleaning it in the bath. It'll go away.

  • PSA these bibs are amazing for preventing the neck cheese. I've seen them at Kohl's and Babies r Us. I use them for every BF or bottle.
But seconds on the coconut oil, I also use it on her baby acne.
