Weeks pregnant and number of months confusion

I'm almost 22 weeks pregnant and some websites say that's 6 months and some say 24 weeks is 6 months so I'm confused as to which is right ?

  • Thanks ladies :) I'm due October 28 so maybe I'll just stick to weeks but just nice to know what mouth I'm in too haha
  • I'm not sure why this is so confusing for people.  Count back from your due date.  I'm due in a little over 3 months (Sept 29), so I'm almost 6 months pregnant.  Easy peasy.  If you are due on October 20, then you are 5 months pregnant today.  On July 20, you'll be 6 months pregnant, on August 20, you'll be 7 months pregnant, and on September 20, you'll be 8 months pregnant.

I'm not sure why it makes me so crazy, but it completely drives me up a wall when people say that pregnancy is 10 months long.  It just isn't.  It's nine.  There are more than 4 weeks in a month, so 40 weeks =/= 10 months.  If every month was February and had exactly 28 days, then yes, pregnancy would be 10 months long, but most months have 30 or 31 days.

  • I'm sticking with what mayoclinic tells me.
  • Your right isn't that hard just wanted to see if other people were getting the same thing from different websites each saying something different. Shouldn't matter too much know how many weeks I am and when I'm due
  • I've actually been going off my LMP. Mine was January 23rd, so February 23rd made me 1 month pregnant. So in 3 days I'll be 5 months pregnant. If I go by the picture that was posted above I would have been 5 months yesterday at 21 weeks. If I go by my due date I'd be 5 months on June 30th. Either way. they're all pretty close together. The end of June makes me 5 months pregnant :) I'm not too concerned about being exact. When someone asks I usually say how many weeks anyway.

I agree pregnancy =/= 10 months... but this doesn't completely make sense either, because pregnancy isn't exactly 9 months. It's 9 months plus about a week. For me my lmp was December 25 so on the 25th of every month I am 1 more month. So June 25th I will have been pregnant for 6 months. I'm due October 1st, but if I was counting backwards I wouldn't be 6 months until July 1st.

Anyway... at 24 weeks I started telling strangers 6 months because it's easier and no one really cares exactly how pregnant I am. Most of the time I just stick to weeks.

I'm 23 weeks, I tell people that I'm in my 6th month but that I have 4 months to go. Sounds like I'm arguing the 10 month thing but I'm really not. Being in the 6th month isn't quite the same as being 6 months pregnant but it makes me feel like I'm closer to meeting my baby so I don't mind the confusion :)

  • I don't understand how people base the # of months they are at based on their LMP. So for weeks you go by your EDD but for months you go by your LMP? No wonder they don't match up!

  • I count backwards from my EDD, but no one us going to nit-pick you if you go by something else.
