TTM about making baby food

FTM but interested in giving this a try. I have a Vitamix so should have no problem with the purée process. Any favorite recipes/websites? Storage containers?

This isn't an I'm-right-you're-wrong reply, so please don't take it this way ...

With DS1, we were all about making his baby food. We had a state-of-the-art food processor, and DH found recipes to work on. Then I found BLW, and read about it when DS was about 5m. We spent the next month reading up on BLW, and it's amazing. It's been a great family-bonding experience (and so much less work than puréeing). https://www.babyledweaning.com

Just wanted to offer up that option and make sure you all at least look into it. It worked well for our family, and while it may not work for everyone, I liked knowing all our options.

    Happy feeding!

  • I made all baby food for DD and DS1. I just used my Cuisinart food processor for everything and like PP said, I froze everything up in little ice cube trays, popped them out and stored them in ziploc bags. I would make huge batches of stuff so that I could just grab sweet potatoes or green beans or applesauce whenever I felt like it. I really love this book (found here) it talked about first foods, timeline for foods and how to prep everything! Hope this helps - I'm planning on doing all this same stuff for DS2 in the coming month.

How do you warm up the frozen cubes? I could only find ceramic ramekins that were small enough and not plastic.... Am I missing something?

My mom used glass custard cups. I have a few I plan on using, too.

  • I would usually thaw out what I was going to use the night before in the fridge, that way they're not still frozen. But either way - I would just pop mine into a regular bowl and heat them up a little bit in the microwave.

  • @JoyBaby5‌ - probably a silly question but do you think a bottle warmer would work? I was thinking of trying that. Perhaps like @KSSmith‌ said- after thawing first?
  • I found this book really to be really helpful - it is a solid food reference guide and recipe book for babies and toddlers: https://www.amazon.com/Best-Homemade-Baby-Food-Planet/dp/1592334237

@elf828‌ - we did BLW with daycare with DS1. They just gave him the food they were feeding the toddler room kiddos. We started that at about 9m. Until then, he just ate breakfast and dinner at the table at home and just bottles at daycare (and home, too, of course).

I saw this on pregnant chickens Facebook page. Might be worth it if you are doing a lot or all homemade?

I want to thank you for this. I have seen BLW on the bump but never looked it up because I'm not BF.... After looking at that link and reading further I thought it was a great concept and I think that's what I'm going to do. :) thank you for sharing!
