What clinic are you working with? Where did you find an egg donor? How much cost are you looking at for a cycle?

I can't offer too much perspective because we are just at the beginning. But here's what we've worked out so far: we cycled with my eggs at two clinics in my state. Both of which have the best DEgg programs in my state, so we did consults at both places. We decided to go forward with the clinic that we felt more comfortable. The match coordinator was really the one who won us over. We are going to start looking at profiles with their program in July. As far as cost goes, we are fortunate to have one IVF cycle remaining under my insurance. We are responsible for the donor's compensation and the administration fees, but the medical expenses are mostly covered this time around.

There are many ways to do donor eggs and the price points are different depending on whether you use an agency or a clinic with a donor pool, whether you share a cycle with other recipients or get all eggs produced by the donor. Also fresh vs frozen. There really is a range for prices amd a range of the "top notch" clinics to the smaller clinics that do a handful of cycles. Typically, using an agency and getting all the eggs is your most expensive. Frozen can be cheaper but you,have to be very careful where you go as most places don't know/haven't mastered the technology to be successful at it.

We used a small independent RE and agency. The donor fees (agency & gift) was about 8k, and the IVF cycle itself was 8k. I had a generous donation of meds. The initial cycle didn't work, but the follow up FET did. That was1500 plus meds. After we spent all of this, we got insurance which covers infertility! Other practices I consulted with were something like almost 30k for a fresh cycle. That was out of budget for us.

Thanks laides. @Brooklynesque I am in southeastern Michigan between Ann Arbor and Detroit. My local RE just started oocyte cryopreservation, I'm hoping that a DE program will be next but probably not soon. They offered outside agency information for us but it's just out of our budget right now.

Oh! I also wanted to ask, we just started getting some infertility coverage but it's very limited. Is anyone familiar with donor eggs/insurance coverage? How does that work?

We went to Shady Grove for their donor egg program (this involved traveling from the Midwest for us). It was worth it for us because we got into their shared risk program which gave us a lot of peace of mind. They do split cycles (1:2 and 1:3) where the eggs from one donation cycle are split between either 2 or 3 recipients which helps keep the costs lower than they would otherwise be (they also do traditional 1:1 cycles which cost more). They also have in-house donors, so you don't have to deal with a donor agency, which was a relief for us. We were very pleased with our care. To me, it just really made sense to get somewhere that had a big program and various financial options. There was fairly minimal travel involved (the initial evaluation and then the transfer appointment).

I used up my allowed coverage before we got to DE so I couldn't use it but if I could have it would have covered the medical part of IVF(the donor's ER, drugs). It will never cover an agency fee or the donor compensation. If I had used it in MA with an agency where I live those uncovered costs still added up to about $20K (or more depending on the donor comp amount and if the donor had travel costs etc). There are no in house donor pools in MA.

I think the websites generally don't give cost bc it can change frequently I know RBA has several options and they like to change the "rules" a lot. They prob don't want to update the webiste that frequently. Fwiw, I did the live birth guarantee program at RBA. It's $28K plus $250 consult fee, $300 psych consult, plus your own drugs and your own u/s/monitoring if you are out of town. Travel costs as well. You get a partial refund if you don't get a live baby on a sliding scale- you can try up to 5 different donors. There are other rules too and other cheaper programs. When I looked at SG, it was about $30 for the 1:3 program but you had to pay the donor drug costs each cycle. I believe you got all your $ back (except drugs) if nothing worked after 6 tries.

I am just beginning my research too and live in SE michigan as well. My current RE in Warren does do donor egg cycles and uses ARR for their donors. I am considering shady grove for the same reasons mentioned above and also rba for frozen eggs. I love my current RE office but they don't offer any sort of guarantee program and at this stage of the game, I need something more. They will do a split donor but they haven't had any recent inquiries for anyone for me to split with. I do have all of the shady grove financial info if you want to PM me yr email address. Although, they are very forthcoming via email on their packages and prices. Let me know if I can help!

Check out Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago also. Not sure what sort of shared or guarantee programs they have if any but they are relatively close to you and have excellent DE success rates.

Advanced fertility has a great website and all of their costs are broken out in great detail. A cycle of DE IVF with them is $26k, plus meds.

We are cycling in Pennsylvania - here's a quick breakdown:

$10,000 for eggs ($2k per egg; we had 5 fertilized and 5 on hold that we won't pay for unless we use)

$3,500 cost to transfer

$625 to freeze remaining embryos

$725 to store remaining embryos (per year)

$4,500 (approx) in doctors appointments, hysteroscopy, etc.

$2,100 (approx) in meds (we did have some insurance coverage on meds)

Total thus far: $21,540

We were also given ARR information for donors. I'm definitely doing a ton of research before we proceed. I did get the info from Shady Grove, the same day I requested it! I was very surprised. I would LOVE to be able to do a 1:1 donor cycle with a refund (wouldn't everyone) but really $55K. Holy batman!

Would the $55K include up to 6 cycles with the guarantee? I think their 1:1 prices are high since they seem to specialize in the split cycles. But, yes, WOW!

The $55K is for up to 6 cycles, including any FET needed and the money back guarantee. The only thing not included is any pre-cycle testing for the recipient and/or medications for the recipient. It really does cover everything.

@love4labs326 we are in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio Reproductive Medicine. We used a known egg donor which we figured out ended up saving us approximately $8-9k ($5k from the donor "gift" and the remaining amount because our donor used her own insurance as much as was possible). Our first IVF cycle was about $16k. We are currently in an FET cycle with the embryos frozen from our donor egg cycle, and we're expecting it to cost less than $5k. Our insurance at the time did not cover anything infertility related for me because my FSH is over 25.

I cycled at a local clinic, they have their own donor pool. The total cost for just the DE IVF was $12,304.25. Our clinic does offer attain packages, but because DH carries a Balanced Translocation we didn't qualify. We had additional costs because we did PDG and an FET.

We did the shared risk with our clinic. It allows for 6 fresh cycles and all frozen cycles from the fresh cycles.. It did not include donor meds or donor fees or screenings which ended up being about 7500. Off the bat, it was 32000, but I think close to$40000 because of several donor fees and meds. Also, our clinic does a refund if none of the six fresh cycles work.

Utah. If you want to email OOPmeds at yahoo dot com I can give you additional information (Our cost break down). Since DH and I had to do ICSI, biopsy for PGD, PGD, freeze, and an FET, the additional cost brought our total up to 30K.

My clinic has really good success rates as well. I really love my RE too.

I'm in Los Angeles, did a non shared cycle;
The donor was 10k
Agency fee was 5.5k (included lawyer and psychological exam)
Donor meds was around 4k
Clinic did a package that included egg retrieval and my transfer 14.5k (includes ICSI, emb freezing for 1 yr)
Insurance did not cover anything related to DE but now that the embryos are ours, they covered our FET. I'm hoping 3rd time's the charm for me.
