Breast Pumps...

Hi there. My insurance covers my breast pump. The ones I can chose from are...

Medela Pump In Style® Advanced Breastpump Starter Set

Ameda Purely Yours® Electric Breast Pump

The First Years™ Breastflow miPump Double Pump™

Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump Shoulder Strap Bag

Hygeia Q Breast Pump with Tote Bag

Medela Advanced Portable Double Breast Pump W/O accessories

Would love to hear your thoughts on which you think is best and why. I am a FTM, and have no idea.

Thanks in advance for your input. Smile

Re: Breast Pumps...

  • I have the ameda purely yours and I don't like it. It's what I got through insurance and it sits at home as a back up. I have a medela PISA a coworker let me use, much better for me.

  • I had the Ameda Purely Yours with my first child and I liked it and thought it worked great. Then I got a Hygeia Q for my daughter and it is so much better than the Purely Yours. I took the Purely yours out with me recently because we were running late and I didn't have time to wash all of the Q parts and as I was using it I couldn't believe that I had liked it. The Hygeia Q says that it is a hospital grade personal pump and I truly feel that it is an excellent pump. It is also a closed system so you don't have to worry about bacteria or mold in the machine and you can feel safe using it again with another baby down the road.
  • When I asked in a previous discussion there was overwhelming response for the Medela. So...that is what I ordered. My SIL swears by it too. The accessories are only $20-30 at Target.

  • I also have the Medela PIS and its been great - never had an issue with it in the 3 months I've been using it. When I was deciding between pumps I looked at the reviews on Amazon which helped a lot.
  • Another vote for Medela PISA. It's worked really well for me and like others have said, really easy to purchase parts and accessories. I got mine through insurance and it came with the bag and ice packs and all the parts.

  • And yet another vote for Medela PISA.  I exclusively pumped for 16 months with my first son and have been pumping for my second son while he is in daycare almost a year (w00t!).  So that breastpump has seen some heavy use and is still kicking!!!  : )

If you are planning on pumping a lot, I also recommend getting (or making) a hands-free pumping bra.
