Destination maternity classes?

All the pamphlets for childbirth classes my doctor gave me are so expensive (I live in NYC so I really shouldn't be so surprised)! We definitely want to do one, if nothing else to ease my mind, but I can't get over the cost of these classes- especially when we are trying to save right now. I was at destination maternity and I saw they have a learning studio there and classes. I'd post this on the NYC board, but it looks like they have it in lots of cities so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these classes? They are so much more affordable, but I am nervous because my doctor seemed pretty insistent she wanted us to go to the classes she recommended. Thanks for the help!

Re: Destination maternity classes?

  • Are the ones your doctor recommended given by the hospital where you would give birth?  The one we went to was given by a nurse from the L&D department and besides covering what to expect during labor, delivery and postpartum she also talked about hospital policies. For me the part about hospital practices was the most important information out of everything she covered.

Is the one at Destination Maternity given by a Nurse or just someone who read a book?

  • You just reminded me to sign up! All of them were almost full. I was able to grab one in September! Sheesh. You think you have time for these things.

Any Birthing/Prep classes that I take and I pay for out of pocket for, my insurance will reimburse me.
So check with your insurance and see if they have program in which they pay for the class!
