Trying to Get Pregnant

1st time taking Clomid....question!!

This is my first round taking Clomid. I am currently on cycle day 13. My OB/GYN said to have sex on cycle days 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18. My husband and I accomplished the task on day 10; however, he was sick yesterday (day 12) so we were unable to have sex. Do you think it's okay that we skipped that day and there's still a chance that I could get pregnant? Or should we risk it (Dr. said not every day) and do it today and tomorrow which is day 14?

  • I was diagnosed with PCOS in December 2010 and was put on birth control pills. I stayed on that for 1 year because I was told that it would get rid of the cysts and help to regulate my cycles (I wasn't having one at all). I went to the doctor in March after my husband and I decided that we were finally ready to start trying and my left ovary had a few cysts. The OB/GYN told me to go back in 6 weeks for another ultrasound to see if the cysts were gone. After the 6 weeks, I went back for another ultrasound. The cysts were gone but he said that it didn't look like I had ovulated so he prescribed me Clomid 50mg taking one a day on days 3-7. So that's what we did and now I'm on day 13 as stated before.

Here's a pretty comprehensive link to a list of all testing & monitoring that should be done. https://effyouute.blogspot.com/2013/08/why-you-need-to-be-monitored-on-clomid.html

Is your doctor doing anything to treat your PCOS? Clomid is not PCOS treatment. Have you been tested for insulin resistance? Treated with Metformin or other med? There could be ways to get you ovulating without fertility medication.

  • no, I have not had any of those treatments you posted at the end. he did do a lot of blood work when I went for the first ultrasound but I'm not sure what all he tested for. I do know that he checked my thyroid.

Please realize that this doctor is not qualified to do what he's trying to do. He's being incredibly irresponsible with serious medication. Just because he has MD after his name, does not mean he is at all qualified to treat your ovulation problem. I'm saying this out of concern for you, please find a new doctor. You need to see a reproductive endocrinologist.

  • I agree with everyone and just want you to know OP that this seems to occur often, and that's not good! After one anovulatory cycle my OB was ready to give me clomid the same day before even doing bloodwork! Please call an RE and get a better doctor! Good luck!

  • Ugh I really hope you take the advice given here OP. Incompetent doctors do exist and it sounds like you found one of them.
