I go to a massage monthly and have always paid cash. Last time I used my card and the machine had an option to tip. It had never crossed my mind to tip. Do you tip at a massage?
As a sometimes working, licensed massage therapist, yes, you should tip. 20% is recommended, but it depends on your satisfaction with the service. No tip would make your therapist bitter after more than once.
Question... Do you tip if it is the owner of the business? My hairdresser works out of her basement, and has no employees. My mom says she does not think you need to tip the owner of the business. We both tip, but she does not give the recommended 20%. What does SAHM say?

No, not when it's the owner, sole proprietor, etc. If she's working out of her home, she has so little overhead - it's all hers.
Well, yes, this. The woman who cut my hair as a kid and who still does my mom's hair refuses to take tips, because it's her salon.

I've always heard you don't have to tip the owner.
Shoot. Now it just occurred to me that I forgot to tip the girl who washed my hair last time I got it cut and colored. Usually, my stylist does the wash but she was busy.
I think I need a tipping for dummies manual. I keep finding more and more things that I haven't tipped for that I should have. It makes me feel horrible!
yes 20%. One time DH told me not to tip because they get the money you pay for the massage. I looked at him like he was nuts and said no way they don't. They get their hourly wage and tips. Since I frequent this place twice a year and always have the same ladies, I don't want to seem like a cheap person.
Question here too - my hair stylist works out of a salon she basically contracts out. I pay her directly with a check. I'm currently tipping her. Should I not? I don't think I would stop either way though.
